Free avatars for D7

Don't say I never gave you guys anything.

http://houstonlively.com/uploads/NCAA-64.zip

Zip file contains 334 NCAA logos optimized for use as D7 avatars.  Too bad the avatar module does not give us a way to organize avatars.  Avatars are sequentially numbered beginning with 400.jpg

Anyway, just unzip them and upload to yoursite.com/modules/boonex/avatar/data/ready  and you're all set.

You may want to check on the legal rights for these.  On a recent blog post (since deleted), a member was rather viciously attacked just for saying he wanted to post non copyrighted material.  This seems like it might be worse.  The NFL, in particular, has been known to be extremely agressive with lawsuits for trademark infringement - even going after tiny tee shirt manufacturers, for using their trademarks, though I doubt that would happen with a website unless it got very big.

@Sydeburnz - totally agree - those avatars are atrocious.  At least we can remove that block now with RC2 - something we couldn't do before.

It's a fair question, but I don't think the NCAA, or any other organization is going to put the screws to anyone for using their logos as avatars.  Millions of people on message boards use pro sports and NCAA logos for avatars, and I have never heard of a single case where the message board owner was chastised for it.   It would be a pretty big stretch of the imagination to say that site owners are profiting by making NCAA avatars available to their users.  If anyone is concerned about their use, they shouldn't use them.

Nevertheless, is is a valid question.  I'll see what I can find out.

No, but if you send me a PM with your email address, I'll send it to you.   I cleaned up a lot of stuff on my site this weekend, including all downloads.
