Forums suggestion

The forums on the unity system are awesome.. I think the forums on Dolphin should be just as good.

What I really do not understand is why these WYSIWYG editors are so complex.. avg, internet users do not know how to deal with it.. it is a good idea to have a WYSIWYG, but it should be very simple.. like the boonex unity messaging system.. there just needs to be some very basic functions.

text color, bold, italic, underline, add image from upload or link, and --embed media-- and that is really all that is necessary..maybe some smilies.. maybe undo/redo.. that's it..

everyday internet users are bothered by this WYSIWYG.

someone please create a mod for this.. so we can replace this WYSIWYG with a simple, fast, easy to use WYSIWYG..

or Boonex, you guys who i love dearly, and think who i think are awesome.. you guys should just replace this one with a simpler one.

you can disable the functionalities on the tinymce editor that you do not wish to present to your users. 

the majority has been that more functionality be provided, and you have inquired about the opposite. you as the site owner, can set the limits to what you present. boonex does not write the editor, they simply provide the usability of what the industry standard has to offer.

I did notice that Rayz has a mod for embedding video.. He is probably capable of showing how to disable all the unnecessary silliness in this WYSIWYG, that is clearly a pain the butt for most internet users unless they are geeks.

I will send over the link to this forum question and see what happens.

guys, i will try to get a video made on how to manage the tinymce plugin on dolphin, but in the meantime, there is a post from HoustonLively where you can get an idea of how to manage some of the functionality of the editor. there are two parts, advanced and simple, if you dont want the advanced functions, then you would disable the advanced option of the editor, and the only basic functions would be available for your users.

do you just change where it says 'advanced' to 'simple'?

Look for the "templates/base/scripts/BxBaseConfig.php"

Look for the code like:

plugins : "style,layer,table,save,advhr,advimage,advlink,emotions, ...

this means that these plugins will be used. You can remove unnecessary plugins from this list and disable them this way.

There are several entries like this in the file.

 i hear ya, yeah it would help some who are trying to modify the tinymce. most on here inquire about more functionality, and there are some really good addons for tinymce. i for one disabled HTML editor, because the ugg boot folks take advantage of that on the blogs. 

for me, all i want to offer is a tinymce like the one the unity messaging system uses.. i think the embed video function is crucial for an orca forum, but this tiny mce does not offer it as a standard thing. things like adding tables, inserting date and time, font highlighting, copy and paste buttons... that is a waste to me.. also to add images and links needs to be just a simple process, all the options tabs do is confuse people..

totally agree with you about html too.. too many weirdos want to hijack everything.
