Fields on pages other than the Profile page

I have gotten familiar with the mechanism to work with the database fields as they are used on the profile page. Using the Fields builder, I have been able to delete the ones I don't need, edit some that I needed altered and added entirely new fields both into the database, and on the page. But I can not seem to find a way, to point the builder to another page.

How do I do that? I need to effect the database on pages other than the profile page. Currently I need to make fields on the Articles page.

You can't, but it would be extremely cool if you could.  Having the field builder working for other pages would be amazing, and would make this into a very different kind of product.  I don't think that is the direction Boonex is going in though.

Has anyone used a third party module that accomplishes this? It seems that a system that is supposedly so "customizable" should have a way to do this built into itself. Here is another thought, (remember I am real newbie here) can we make pages using other page development tools, and integrate them within the main Dolphin system?

Well you not really understanding the complexities of trying to automate things and the limitations such automation create. Although it would be nice to have that kind of simplicity in the design, it's just not going to happen anytime soon.

Anyhow. You can create and gain access to any database table or field you want. The use of PHP in PHP blocks will get you the power to create and setup practically anything on a page that you want.

You just need to learn a little PHP and add some kind on PHP block modification to dolphin.

Well thanks for the insight. I was kinda thinking that "anything CAN be done" but not necessarily from "inside" the Dolphin interface. Do you think it would be required to make any new pages in php? (not my native environment) Are there any users who have been successful integrating their own pages into the Dolphin environment. Are html, and .asp even a remote possibility?

Dolphin has a page builder built in with html blocks that will help you build pages for dolphin.

But if your asking if you can get dolphin to just use pre written asp or html pages, then no. That would kinda defeat the purpose of dolphin. You can take prewritten html and put it in a page block.

If your going to make your own pages, then you may as well build a website the old fashion way.

And if ASP is your thing, then dolphin was a wrong choice. You should have looked for a Windows app written in ASP. Dolphin is written in PHP and runs best under Linux with Apache. ASP is a dirty acronym in the Linux world.

Agreed. I tried in vein to find  a social networking script that was in my "native language". Anytime I got a nibble, there was a deal breaker standing in my way. So, since Dolphin was SOOO amazingly well marketed, I jumped. I am totally a fish out of water, so even the simplest of requests from the owner of the site I am trying to build are frustrating me... and him. Things that in the old fashion way, would be only minutes to accomplish, take me days of research and begging for help.

For example, when the builder lets me put the block that shows members onto the homepage, it puts a line above it, that has controls to change the sort from latest to top or online. It works great, but the owner of the site wants it gone. In my old fashioned site builder software, I would load the homepage into my editor, click on the div.boxFirstHeader (I can see in the browser editor, that I need to get rid of (div#dbTopMenu11.dbTopMenu) and tap the delete key, save it, publish it to the site, problem solved. I have been trying for days to find what to delete, and where to delete it from.

I know that someone who knows php and Dolphin beyond mortal men, can probably perform that task as easily as I can in my old tools. But I can not seem to find the instructions I need to do it.

And the hours just keep flying by!
