I have another feature request made by a user. They want to be able to set the privacy of content to certain individuals in their contact list.. For example, they create a blog post and then set the privacy to "Individual People" and then enter those members in a text field. How possible is that with Dolphin? First they create a custom privacy group, then add people to the group. Then they set the content to be viewable by that group only. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
Yes, I know about custom privacy group. This is different. That method could result in the user creating hundreds to thousands of privacy group over the course of year(s).
An example. I create a blog post today that I want to share with my contacts consisting of Jimmy, Sally, Susan, and Bob. The next day I create a blog post that I want to share with Jimmy, Susan, Bob, and Billy. The next day I create a blog post that I want to share with Susan, Jimmy, John, Billy, Lisa, and Joe.
That is what "individual people" means.

True, but it not a valid point to be used for your argument.
From the point of view of storing information it will not matter if a member is creating a group or selecting users to restrict view of a item to. In the latter, dolphin will still need to store information of who can view, so it still results in thousands of entries over the years.

Your point is valid as far as storing the data. The difference is that the user would have to create these privacy groups each time they create a post; and thus would see a long list of privacy groups in their drop down selector and that would not be a good thing. The base question is, "How possible is it to create this feature on Dolphin?" I don't know that much about the inner workings of Dolphin at this time. Geeks, making the world a better place |

Not a realistic request for a social networking platform. There is however, an application that can do this. It's called email.

Actually, there are social networking sites that have implemented this feature. Therefore, it is a realistic request. Whether I will try to implement it on Dolphin or not depends on how much work it will be.
