addit:  I have removed the second screenshot as it contained personally identifiable information, if you refer to the settings that Deano has added below for facebook this should not be needed on my example.

Deano

I have inboxed you but also thought I should request assistance here in case anyone else has the same issue.

I need some assistance with this mod. I am getting an error, I currently use this mod: http://www.boonex.com/unity/extensions/entry/RPX_Login/ for connecting to facebook and am having trouble with getting the settings correct in the admin panel for your mod to work on the site that I have installed.

I have attached a photo of the settings page but have changed the details for privacy reasons.

Thanks

That facebook app id and secret key are not right.

Looks like that facebook connect mod will not be compatable with the auto logon feature of my mod.

But the APP ID and Secret are obtained from facebook. You need to have a facebook application setup. Same requirements for the Boonex facebook connect and mine and most others also need a facebook app.

It appears your mod somehow gets around that requirement, but i don't see how. As far as i knew all communicatuon with facebook requireds a facebook app ID and secret key.

Go to http://www.facebook.com/developers/ Do you have a application setup there?

There ya go.

The second pic you just posted.

The application ID and the Secret from that page is what you want in the first 2 config spots.

Yes I had already got that from facebook as you said from the second picture.  And I have added those and unticked the auto login and emptied Path to your Facebook Connect Logon box and saved but still get an error Fatal error: Uncaught OAuthException: An active access token must be used to query information about the current user. thrown in/home/creative/domains/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.org/public_html/dbcsFacebook/facebook.php on line 453

Oh. and base domain is just that. The base domain. Not a URL.

So just your domain name.

https://www.deanbassett.com
29 Sep 2010

That error might be a cookie problem. Correct the base domain setting, empty the logon path and uncheck auto logon.

Then log out of facebook and clear your browser cookies. Close the browser and try again.

Ok I have adjusted that, I think it may be the application settings on facebook that are incorrect, so you have an example of that setup that you could provide?

It does not appear that the auto logon will be compatable with that mod. It has a popup and redirects things through a 3'rd party site.

You may need to get the boonex version of facebook connect updated to the latest version and installed so the auto logon feature can use it instead. Or my version. The boonex one is free of course but mine has auto avatar cropping so the login will also bypass the cropping of the avatar on new signups.

I updated this mod today to fix two bugs. One of them critical.

OAuth errors are normally caused by cookie problems. And deleting the browser cookies usually will take care of the problem.

However, this mod was not designed to be used by guests. Some of the people using this mod have chosen to make the menu item for the mod available to guests when this is not the default setting.

The mod tracks invites that each member makes, and as such requires a member be logged into the site to perform invites. Also if a member is not logged into the site, the required facebook cookies are not set resulting in the oAuth error.

So this update fixes 2 problems.

1) Missing Language Key.

2) Added code to allow page to be used only by members. When guests view the page they will be presented with the standard dolphin logon box.

My Facebook friend inviter Mod updated again today to fix a bug preventing the script from running properly when dolphin is installed in a sub directory.

Please report additional problems with the mod to this forum.

Hello Deano, In FB Inviter, under application Name I have: deanos_facebook_connect

Is this correct? It appears to be working ok!

When you say Base Domain, do you mean the url minus the http://www. bit?

Ps. Does not work under the IE9 Beta!

There are none so blind as those that will not see.
14 Oct 2010

The application name is suppose to be the name you gave your facebook application. It becomes part of the invite window text along with the description. It's what members that you invited see when they see the invite on facebook.

And yes, base domain is just your domain name. Again, that is to match the base domain you gave the facebook application on facebook when you created that.

One request: Is it possible to have a 'Balloon' pop up description, when the mouse is over the menu icon?

Hey Deano have you tried to install this mod in D7.04 beta yet? I have been playing with it to see if the mods I have now will have to be tweaked, and everything goes well tell i try to click on the menu link on site. It takes me to blank page.

/Testing/facebook_invite.php?online=true.

Just wondering if you played with it.

No i have not. I normally do not test my mods on betas. I have done that in the past and wound up haveing to fix things a second time. So i prefer to wait for the final.

And i should remind you. Blank pages meens a error. So if your going to test, make sure php is configured to report errors and warnings so you can see the reason for those blank pages.

Oauth errors are generally cookie problems. Most likely you bounced between your live and test site and the cookies between the two sites conflicted. Try deleting your browser cookies. Make sure your logged out of facebook and both your sites first.

Just to let you know. I just upgraded my site to 7.0.4 and tested the mod. I did not find any problems.

OAuth errors are usally always cookie problems. Lingering facebook session cookies. It has been covered a few times in this topic before.

1) Make sure your logged out of facebook.

2) Make sure your logged out of your site.

They cannot be changed at the moment.

Still looking into a way to translate those. Some of those areas are actually part of the facebook inviter code on the facebook side that i have very little control over.

Read through some of the posts here. How many times do i really have to repeat this.

OAuth errors are caused by cookie problems.

1) Log out of facebook.

2) Logout of your site.

3) Delete browser cookies.

4) Close your browser.

And if you back up a half dozen posts you will see you already asked this, and it was answered.

Oh, and your OAhuth error is also slightly different.

When you first connected with the app, did you grant extended permissions?

If not, then go into facebook. Account->Privacy Settings  http://www.facebook.com/settings/?tab=privacy

Then at the bottom of that page click on Edit your settings under applications and websites.

Then click on edit settings and a application list will appear showing what apps you have authorized to connect to your account. Remove your site from the list.

Then log out of facebook and repeat the cookie removal procedures.

Also verify the facebook side is setup correctly per these screen shots. http://www.deanbassett.com/images/facebook_screenshots/

You have not been specific enough, so i will have to guess.

If you are seeing that when a facebook member accepts the invite, which i think is the case because that is the only time i have seen it, then that means you have the auto logon feature in the friend inviter turned on, and the url to your facebook connect logon form is not correct.

Verify that facebook connect logon page url is accurate by entering it in the browser and see where it takes you.

If that is not the case, then please be specific as to when and where this occurs and at what part of the process.

Delete browser cookies.

I just tested on your site again and sent invite without problems.

The primary cause of these oauth errors are cookie related and normally occurs when people test switching back and forth between multipal facebook accounts.

https://www.deanbassett.com
16 Dec 2010

Another procedure to try specifically for the The user hasn't authorized the application to perform this action error.

Go to the friend inviter page.

If logged in to facebook, logout using the button on the inviter page.

Then log back into facebook using the button on the inviter page.

Let me know if doing that causes a prompt for extra permissions from facebook.

Another option to try, if you have the version of my friend inviter that has the option Post invite to facebook wall and you turned it on, try shutting it off and see if that makes a difference.

Yes it will. But the auto logon feature cannot be used.

That feature will allow for auto logons to your site through facebook connect when the invite is accepted. With the feature off the accepted invites redirect to your sites main page instead.

Hi Deano,

I am having 2 issues with this mod.

When I choose 5 friends to invite on page /facebook_invite.php?online=true

It does connect to FB but returns me to the facebook_invite.php that is a blank page

then when I go back to check it has only invited 1 friend not 5

FYI

I have just upgrade my dolphin and the FB inviter mod to the latest ver

When I check the error log i see ......

[03-Jan-2011 11:00:25] PHP Fatal error:  Uncaught OAuthException: (#200) The user hasn't authorized the application to perform this action

3 Jan 2011

This error. PHP Fatal error:  Uncaught OAuthException: (#200) The user hasn't authorized the application to perform this action

Is most likely due to a missing permission to be granted when first connecting to facebook.

Using the button on the friend inviter page, logout of facebook and then reconnect. It should prompt again. See if that fixes it.

https://www.deanbassett.com
3 Jan 2011

did that still same blank page

3 Jan 2011

I just tested this on your site and did not have a problem. So your browser cookies must be messed up.

Make sure you follow this exact procedure.

Log out of your site.

Make sure you are logged out of facebook.

Clear your browser cookies.

Then log back into your site using the normal logon. Not facebook connect.

Go to the inviter page. Login to facebook using the button on that page.

You should be prompted by facebook for additional permissions. If so then accept them. If not, then mention that here becuse i need to know if it happens or not.

Then try another invite.

Report each step you took here and EXACTLY what happens.

If that does not work, then try shutting off the post invite to wall option in the mods settings.

As for your counts. If facebook does not properly return after a invite, then the invite will not be counted. So the other problem needs to be corrected for the counts to work properly.

It seems this mod is not compatible with a number of templates from derartmedia. Primarily the ones with the modified short member menu.

A new version is being developed to deal with the compatibility issues.

Hi Deano the is mod is working great thanks for all you hard work on such a wonderful mod.
10 Jan 2011

As part of my goal to trap and deal with as many oauth errors as i can i need to create a large group of facebook friends consisting of test accounts for the purpose of testing invites.

If you have a spare facebook account you use for testing only and want to become part of this testing group, then with your facebook test account please send a friend request to this profile.

http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000364026208

The more throughly i can test this mod, the better it will be.

I will be making changes to the next version of the inviter. The post to wall feature is proving to be a problem. Facebooks limits on how many posts a app can make is killing this feature. Thus, the next version will do what facebook games do. It will post a single message to the logged in members own wall. The friend inviter has just been updated. Jan 20, 2011 at 4:45PM EST to try to deal with the many oauth errors that have been occurring.

More work still to do. But if you're getting a lot of oauth errors when facebook returns to the inviter page after clicking the send invite request button then download and install the new version.

I am also looking to increase the friends on my facebook test account. Please read above post. I need more volunteers.

Hi Probably something simple - but appreciate any help you can give

Trying to change the redirect URL for when people accept the invite - but cant seem to find the right place to change it

also

For some reason on my dev server - it is saying I can invite around 22 people but for some reason on my live site it will only let me invite 3 - is there a setting I need to change or is it likely to be another issue

28 Jan 2011

Are you running the current version? Date of last update is shown on the market page for it. If you got it earlier than that, then update. You did not specify if a oauth error is the reason you can't invite more than 3, so i am obviously guessing here.

As for the other. The mod can do redirects to 2 locations after invite. Either to the facebook connect logon, if that url is set in config and the auto logon is on. Or to the sites main url if the auto logon is not on.

A option to set a specific url on invite accept was not programmed into the mod as redirecting anywhere else does not make much sence to me.

SUBJECT: Invite / Skip Return URL

Hi Deano,

I have one more question. After inviting people or skipping the step, the Friend Inviter page reloads. Is it possible to have a different page load to lead users to another step? If possible, where would I find the code and how would I go about changing it?

Thanks again!

Ok. I will add it as a option in the next version of the inviter.

For now. Edit the following file.

modules\deano\fb_friend_inviter\classes\BxFbFriendInviterModule.php

Look for this at about line 73

header('location: ' . BX_DOL_URL_ROOT . $sRedirectTo);

Add this just above it.

$sRedirectTo = 'page to redirect to';

Where page to redirect to is the page you want to redirect to like member.php or something.

Great!  Thanks

Here's something I noticed which would be good to confirm:

The link posted to the wall (http://www.facebook.com/reqs.php) takes you to the page of invitation and appears to get buried below dozens of other requests.

If you use the following link (http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=apps) in the language field (_dbcs_FI_invite_msg), it appears to take you directly to the applications, and yours will be at the top.

I would appreciate it if someone could confirm this too.

I've also adjusted this field to have my web address, so people can come directly to the site. Does this violate Facebook policy?

Thanks

12 Feb 2011

If you find that link is better, then use it. I'll make a note for the next update.

I'm having the following problem:

When someone creates an account with your Facebook Connect mod on my site, they are not asked for permissions.  (not the problem :o). I have it set up to bring them to your FB Inviter upon creating an account. Problem: They receive the following message:

"You are logged into facebook, but do not have the permissions needed for this inviter. Please disconnect from facebook and reconnect using the button here so facebook can prompt for the needed permissions."

Is there a way to have a popup instead of disconnecting/reconnecting their account?

Thanks

12 Feb 2011

No.

What you can do is just add the additional permission requirement to the facebook connect module. This BTW is easier in my new version 4 due out soon. Needed permissions are part of the admin configuration, and the one needed for the inviter is already selected

But for the current version of my facebook connect, edit the following file.

\modules\deano\deanos_facebook_connect\classes\BxFaceBookConnectModule.php

Look for this at line 310.

$par['req_perms'] = "email,user_hometown,user_birthday,user_about_me,user_interests,user_likes,user_location";

Edit it to include the needed wall post permission.

$par['req_perms'] = "email,user_hometown,user_birthday,user_about_me,user_interests,user_likes,user_location,publish_stream";

That will take care of the problem.

I will need a lot more information then that. Such as what happens, any errors, ect.

Start by makeing sure the application on the facebook side is setup correctly. Use these screen shots as a guide. http://www.deanbassett.com/images/facebook_screenshots/

Error means files are missing. Make sure you followed the install instructions to the letter.

The folder included in the zip file named dbcsFacebook must be uploaded to the root of your dolphin site. It would appear it did not get uploaded or uploaded to the wrong location.

Here are the first 5 steps from the install instructions.

1) Upload the modules folder to the ROOT of your dolphin site.

2) Upload the dbcsFacebook folder to the ROOT of your dolphin site.

3) Upload the templates folder to the ROOT of your dolphin site.

4) Upload the file facebook_invite.php to the ROOT of your dolphin site.

5) Set permissions to 777 on folder modules\deano\fb_friend_inviter\backup

It would appear step 2 was not done or not done correctly.

Start a new topic about the current problem. There are a number of posts in the forums regarding forum compiling issues. And they are usally folder permission issues.

Check your servers error log files to start with, then post a new topic on the problem.

A number of people have reported that the inviter does not work on the new IE9. I have a workaround to get it working for that browser.

Run the following MySql query in phpMyAdmin

INSERT INTO `sys_injections` (`name`, `page_index`, `key`, `type`, `data`, `replace`, `active`) VALUES
('dbcs_fbi_ie7_mode', 403, 'injection_IE7_mode', 'text', '<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7.5" />', 0, 1);

Now edit templates\base\_header.html

Look for this

<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=__page_charset__" />

And insert the marked line under the <head> tag like so.

<head>
<bx_injection:injection_IE7_mode />
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=__page_charset__" />

If you have any custom templates you need to see if any of your custom templates have a _header.html file. If they do, then each will need to have this line added.

This should resolve the issue with IE9.

Then clear the dolphin cache. Both DB and template cache need to be cleared. Or clear all.

21 Mar 2011

Facebook Friend Inviter version 2.0.1 has been released.

This version adds the following features.

1) The auto logon option has been removed and replaced with redirect options that determine where the invited member is sent when the invite is accepted.

2) The injections for IE9 as described in the above post have been added to the module. The install instructions contain the information on the template change that needs to be made to get the inviter working on IE9

3) Alerts have been added. One thats triggered when an invite is sent, the other is triggered by my facebook connect module when an invited member joins.

Other than bug fixes, this will be the last version using the built-in fb:multi-friend-selector code. I will be eliminating the use of FBML code for a couple of reasons.

1) The required addition to the <html> tag to add the facebook namespace for FBML is not valid HTML5. One of the reasons for the problems in IE9

2) It appears that facebook has plans of obsoleting FBML

So version 3 when released will not use any FBML. The interface will be of my own design and will use the graph API to send its invites.

You will most likley need to PM me Dolphin admin and FTP access so i can try a locate the problem.

If you search for actiontext in the file dbcsFacebook\friendselector.php you will see that it is indeed there.

So either you have damaged files, or something else is wrong that i will need to attempt to find.

EDIT: So far i have not recieved this error from your site. I have signed up and i have reloaded the inviter page several times and each time it has worked without error.

Where will I find this:

"Path to your Facebook Connect Logon: Here you enter the full path to your sites facebook connect logon page."

I cannot find this in the facebook inviter admin page. I do have:

'Custom invite accept redirect page.
Must be set to custom above.
Example. member.php:'

Which (for the time being anyway) is where I have put 'http://www.yourdomain.com/modules/?r=deanos_facebook_connect/login_form'

Thanks for your help!

Hi Deano, I just bought this mod but Facebook is giving me this error:  Given URL is not allowed by the Application configuration, how can I solve this? Thanks you in advance!

This means the facebook side is not setup correctly.

The URL specified does not match your dolphin site.

Check the Site URL and Base domain setting in your app at http://www.facebook.com/developers/

Use these screenshots as a guide for the other settings. http://www.deanbassett.com/images/facebook_screenshots/

The common problem is a lot of people assume the www prefix. If dolphin is not configured to use www than you can't set facebook up to use it either. The url must match.

Your attachment is of no use to me. It's a docx file requiring a new version of Office to open. You should use standard screen shots in jpg or png format.

Anyhow, as i mentioned in response to your message, the redirect after invite appears to be returning to the wrong page. I will need the site url and possibly access to analyze, check settings and verify proper install.

I just created an account on your site. The inviter is working fine except you seem to have reversed the blocks on the page. The column the inviter is on needs to be the wider column.

However, the logons are fine. If you read a few posts here you will discover oAuth errors are the result of cookie problems.

Log out of facebook, and then delete your browser cookies. Close the browser and then try again.

18 Apr 2011

You should be having other problems with dolphin other than this mod.

This error indicates that the php.ini option of allow_url_fopen is not on, or has been disabled by your host. This is a normal dolphin requirement per the hosting requirements listed here. http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/wiki/DolTech

This is a hosting issue. If you do not know how to check that php option then contact your host for help.

4 May 2011

All we get is a Facebook logo and 'Go to Facebook.com' link where the friend selection panel should be shown. Any updates/ideas for this? Thanks!

This issue seems to be occurring more and more frequent and appears to be a block of the facebook multi-friend-selector from the facebook side.

No resolution for this has been found. If you create a new facebook account and connect to the inviter with the new one you will see it works proving it is a facebook account issue and not the inviter itself.

Some how the apps features of selecting friends for invite is being blocked on the facebook end on a per account basis. My guess is accounts that have sent a high number of invites with a low acceptance rate. However, that is just a theory as the exact reason is still unknown.

The new version i am working on will eliminate the use of facebooks built in multi-friend-selector which i hope will resolve the issue. unfortunately it is a complete rewrite. Basically a new module from scratch, so it will take me a while to complete it.

https://www.deanbassett.com
4 May 2011

OK thanks for the update - I expected it to be something on their side. They appear to change their rules regularly for third-parties. I look forward to your new module and will in the meantime deactivate this one.

4 May 2011

There should be no need to disable it. As i mentiond, the block is on a per account basis, so most of your members will still be able to see it, and use it even if it does not show up on your account.

https://www.deanbassett.com
4 May 2011

In that case we've updated line 31 of your module's en.php file to now show:

'_dbcs_FI_connected' => 'You are currently connected to Facebook. Your friend list may take a while to load - please wait. However, if a Facebook logo and "Go to Facebook.com" text is shown below, then unfortunately your Facebook account is not able to handle invitations using our system',

4 May 2011

Humm..I do not have an error, but my friends do not load..Now, thankful for Deano who checked it and send me a screenshot that is working..but, what if a member has 5000 friends on his facebook account? does it load..So, did anyone experience this problem?

I will be thankful..

thanks

Some how the apps features of selecting friends for invite is being blocked on the facebook end on a per account basis. My guess is accounts that have sent a high number of invites with a low acceptance rate. However, that is just a theory as the exact reason is still unknown.

The new version i am working on will eliminate the use of facebooks built in multi-friend-selector which i hope will resolve the issue. unfortunately it is a complete rewrite. Basically a new module from scratch, so it will take me a while to complete it.

That could be a number of things, but my guess would be that you did not upload all of the files. Specifically step 4 where your instructed to upload facebook_invite.php to the root of your dolphin site. That file missing or not uploaded to the proper location would cause that.

Hi Dean,

Two options that I would like to see.

1. Have a list of checkboxes next to the "already invited list".

So we can check a bunch of already invited friends and delete them in one shot instead of deleting them one by one.

2. This 2nd item...I am not sure if it's doable or helpful to other members.

When "invited friends" see the notification in their Facebook and click to confirm is it possible to send them to http://www.mysite.com/?id=1234  instead of  http://www.mysite.com/

The 1234 is the ID of the member in my site who sent out the invitation.

This way I can track who sent the invitation.

OR, if not that, I would like to be able to see who invited who through the FB Inviter in the admin area.

A quick question,

is there a way of putting a full URL in the custom invite redirection field?

For example users who accept the invitation will be redirected to http://www.somedomain.com/

Not at this time. The feature has been asked for a number of times, so it is being planned for one of the next releases.

Below are screenshots of what you see on the facebook side after a invite is sent.

This is a image of what is seen on the facebook account that recieve the invite.

There is a red 2 in the upper menu indicating 2 new notices. One is a notice of a wall post, the other is a notice of a app request. There is also the post in the news feed shoing the wall post.

The next image shows the 2 new posts. This appears when you click in the red 2 in the upper menu.

The next photo shows what you see when you click on the wall post link. NOTE: Facebook has been running real slow and this page sometimes takes a while to load. That is a facebook problem i can't control. From there the request can be accepted or removed.

This next image shows what you see when you click on the app request link from the left menu "App Requests" or from the drop down menu that appeared when the red 2 was clicked on from the top menu. From there the request can be accepted or removed.

My facebook friend inviter version 3.0.0 is currently being beta tested at my demo site. http://www.deanbassett.com

This new version no longer uses the fb:multi-friend-selector dialog box. This new version now uses the facebook requests dialog. The wall posting feature and request vrs invite options have also been removed. The new version has a slightly different look and functions differently. So before i get any complaints about why it has been changed i would like to explain why.

Facebook is currently in the process of deprecating FBML (Facebook Markup Language). As such, the dialogs and other functions that used FBML are also being deprecated.

So i have been left with no choice but to change the way the module works and switch to the new requests dialog.

Invites sent using this new dialog show up in facebook as an application request. Looks very similar to the game requests you see if you play any games on facebook.

The new module is still under developement and may have bugs which is why i am asking those that have purchased the old one to help me test the new one. So please visit my demo site and try it out.

The new version sill also support a redirect url that contains the inviters member id that can be used to redirect to a referral URL. Support for this has been asked for so will be included in this new version.

No ETA on a release date yet. I am shooting for next week. But could be closer to 2 weeks.

Please test it out.

You posted this in my inviter forum, however i think your posting this in the wrong forum. The message you seeing appears to be a redirect issue but is occurring in facebook connect.

So i have to ask a question because i am not sure your properly understanding the flow of how the invites work. Which ends after the invite is sent. After that, the inviter is completly out of the picture. It did it's job.

My question.

Is this happening after you click on a link on the facebook side? If so, then it has nothing to do with the inviter because the inviter has one task and one task only and that is to send an invite to facebook. Once that's done the inviter is no longer in the picture. It's done it job.

Once the invite is on facebook, that link functions exactly like any other link you find on the internet. Which in this case links to your site to the facebook logon form.

So perhaps you should test a facebook connect logon to your site using google chrome.

I need you to tell me when this redirect loop message occurs.

Before you sent the invite.....?

After you send it????

Or after you click on the invite link on facebook???

Did you do as i asked and tried a facebook connect logon with chrome by itself?

if it works, just have it redirect to the site, they can click the facebook connect button themselves.

I mean really. I am less than 2 weeks away from a new version to replace something facebook is obsoleting. It could take me days to locate and fix a problem with something i am going to dump anyway.

I have had interesting tests coming from this module. It would be great to have an easily editable message that gets posted instead of a language key.

So i have the settings pretty well set, and it does post to the wall of the invitee... but there are no links to bring them to the website at all.  It does link to the requests, but there is nothing posted there in the requests.  So if you have an invite, you should have a link to the website to have them join, and if it is posted as a request, there should still be some format of linkage to anything but the information on the Facebook APP info page.  It is even surprising that I get no notifications that anything has happened or been invited in the updates/status area at the header of the site.

Will all this be corrected in the next version?

Even Monkeys and Retards get it right with repitition! - Author Unknown

When accepting the request it is supposed to go to your site.

Anyhow, the current methods are being phased out by facebook. So the new version will not work the same way.

There will no longer be a wall post. And the invite/request is being replaced with what facebook now calls an application request.

It will show up the same way game requests do. Instead of the name of the game, it's the name of your site, For example.

The new inviter functions differently. A version being tested is on my website at http://www.deanbassett.com

http://www.deanbassett.com/facebook_invite.php

You will need more than one facebook account for testing. Invites are to be sent to more than one test account. A facebook accounts privacy settings can interfere with the received request so testing with only one account is not sufficient for a proper test.

I have tested, and find that there is no interface to input or logon to Facebook. I checked the Profile fields and found the Facebook field. There is no instruction as what to put here. so I entered login, and it stayed 0, so I wnet and got the ID# of the profile and entered.

It retained the value, but still did not connect at all. But the Facebook Comments box on the Account and Profile page worked real well.

There is no controls or buttons for settings or logons, and could not get it to work at all.

Even Monkeys and Retards get it right with repitition! - Author Unknown
23 Aug 2011

Ok. I need to get a clear picture here.

First of all. The profile field you are refering to is for the facebook connect module. Not the inviter.

So first you go here after logging into the site. http://www.deanbassett.com/facebook_invite.php

Are you saying you do not see a logon button on that page, or a logout, or anything at all. I need information. Browser, OS, what you see on that page. Everything you can possibley tell me. But just keep your reports within that page of my site. Nothing else there has anything to do with the inviter.

So far i have Tested IE9, Firefox 5 and Google Chrome 13.0.782.112

All of them show me a logon button, and all of them log into facebook just fine.

Oh, and if your do see a logon button but nothing happens when you click it, then does your browser have a popup blocker? The new version popups a facebook logon dialog.

UPDATE ON THE STATUS OF THE NEW INVITER VERSION 3.0.0

It would appear i have to go back to the drawing board for the new inviter. It does not work. I have been making attempts to switch to facebooks app requests dialog to send invites because facebook is obsoleting the current dialog i am using. However i cannot make it work as i had planned.

The new app requests dialog requires that the app itself delete the request id's that it sends. This poses a problem with the flow of how things are to be handled.

1) The request is sent by the inviter
2) The invited member accepts the request.
3) The invited member is redirected to site to connect with facebook connect.

Where the problem lies is requests can only be deleted by the app that sent the request and only if the member has accepted permissions on the app and it is added to their facebook app list.

To make this work would force me to get the new member to accept permissions for the inviter first so the requests can be processed and removed then redirected to the site where they will again be required to accept permissions for the facebook connect module.

This will cause major confusion as they will not understand why they are being prompted for permissions twice for two different applications when accepting an invite.

I had thought my inviter was working. It turns out the only reason it was working for me as i had already previously accepted permissions and the apps were listed in my facebook accounts i was testing with. This will not be the case for people who have never used the apps before.

So needless to say, i will have to come up with an entirelly different way of doing invites if i expect to continue to offer this module when facebook obsoletes the old invite methods.

So this will be quite a while longer. Current version being tested is a failure.

Opened IE 8 on XP Pro.

I registered on your site and clicked on the FaceBook Connect button. The pop-up asked for the proper information and then when it connected with FaceBook the browser threw an error:

Message: Permission denied
Line: 22
Char: 4141
Code: 0
URI: http://connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js

The pop-up remained empty. I checked another browser window and I was now logged into FaceBook. Went back to your site window and closd the empty pop-up and refreshed your page. The entire list of my friends on FaceBook showed up. I chose the new sample friend and completed the invite. I logged into FaceBook using my other account and the request was there along with the opportunity to import photos. I was then presented with my login and password.

I have installed the OpenInviter program and FaceBook doesn't work with Dolphin 7.0.7. Twitter and several others that I tested worked fine. OpenInviter still says the connection to FaceBook is good.

I have your v. 2.01 installed on my site and Twitter and several others work fine but FaceBook says:

LOGIN FAILED. PLEASE CHECK THE EMAIL AND PASSWORD YOU HAVE PROVIDED AND TRY AGAIN LATER

Just wanted to get you all the facts. If you want me to test again, remove my registration for "Ricahard" (spelled incorrectly at FaceBook... just try and edit THAT one easily) and I do it again.

Rick

13 Sep 2011

Yes i do want you to test again. But just the details of the test please. The information on whats going on with your own site is a separate issue and needs to be discussed separately.

As the only purchase i see in my records from you is my facebook connect module purchased on July 17, not my inviter. I have no record of purchase on the inviter unless that was done with a different boonex account.

Also. My facebook connect module also states in the product descrioption that it is not compatible with the RPX module. The reason it is not compatible is that module uses OpenID technology. My facebook connect module does not. Thus it is unlikely that a connection made to facebook with open ID will be recognized by my facebook connect module or the boonex version either as both our versions use the facebook API and not the open ID protocols. Anyhow, that is a different matter which should be discussed separately.

My modules should really not be used on sites that also mix modules that use use Open ID. There is no guarantee they will be able to talk to each other.

I need a screenshot to show EXACTLY what you want to change.

If your intent is to change anything within the iframe that lists your friends that are currently in the facebook colors, you can forget it. There is no way to change any of that.

Some of the colors can be changed in templates\base\css\dbcs_fb_invite.css and some of it is in the modules code. If you could provide a screen shot showing exactly what you want changed i should be able to tell you.

I tried to make this module so the blocks themselves would match pretty much any template without requiring any skinning.

Sorry. But it is working. Has to be a facebook account or browser issue. Screenshot of the inviter from your site while logged into my facebook account.

Just a little more information about the use of the API key vs the APP ID.

It was announced a while back by facebook that the API key was no longer going to be used. However i cannot find that announcement at this time.

Even tho both work at this time if you look through all of the documentation of the graph API https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/api/ you will find that the APP ID is used within all of the documentation.

So i still suspect something with those keys is going to change sometime in facebooks future.

It has been brought to my attention that my inviter versions 2.0.2 and under are currently not working.

I have known for quite some time that facebook is depreciating FBML and i have been working on a new version to replace the current versions.

FBML is not suppose to be depreciated until Jan 1, 2012. Info on that and a list of what is being depreciated is here. http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/fbml/ It is however suppose to continue to work until Jun of 2012.

Either facebook is currently having a problem and this issue is temporary, or they have jumped the gun and depreciated it to soon.

I am currently looking into this.

If facebook does not resolve this i may have to release my new version before it has been fully tested.

Reminder. I am still trying to get people to test the new version. If you have not done so, then please. I need testers and feedback left in the group per the instructions. http://www.deanbassett.com/facebook_invite.php You must have an account on my site and be logged in to test the new inviter.

It would appear that Facebook as depreciated FBML way ahead of schedule, or at least some of the less used features.

I have removed the current version from the market to prevent any new sales.

I will push to get the new one out as soon as possible.

Your issue is diferent from the current one. Yours appears to be a missing file. facebook_invite.php appears to have not been uploaded from the install archive, or was removed. Verifiy that the file was uploaded to the proper location.

ANNOUNCEMENT:

My apologies for the delay in getting the new version out. I have lost a couple of days this weekend.

I went to the hospital fri because i had difficulty breathing. I have a severe cold, and the fact that i have smoked 2 packs of cigarettes a day for many years did not help matters any.

Anyhow. The new version is being finished up and should only be another couple of days.

I smoked for 20 years, 3 packs a day. Gave it up 10 years ago cold turkey.

You should do the same. We can't afford to have you dying anytime within the next 50 years because it's gonna take that long to get our Dolphin sites finished and into production.

Cool

Inviter on my site stopped working long back. Today i tried to find its root cause and disabled SECURE BROWSING and LOGIN NOTIFICATIONS on my fb profile.. thn disconnected and reconnected from the inviter app and alas, it started working normally.

You can try it too. On fb, go too account settings > security settings > and disable top two options.

EDIT- Its not working on chrome

New version is still being worked on.

Facebook has made changes on how application requests are announced and how they are suppose to be cleared by the application 3 times in the last 2 months forcing me to make changes which results in more tests.

This is getting crazy. Wish they would leave well enough alone.

Hi, can u build an an additional feature to update fb status on behalf of members?

https://www.facebook.com/4thmolar
26 Jan 2012

I know this announcement is going to upset a few people, however there is nothing i can currently do.

The new inviter i am working on at my website has stopped working. It is no longer recording sent requests. Facebook has been making a lot of changes to the requests dialog i have been using in the new version. This has slowed down the development time.

Now a recent change was made that prevents me from using it at all. I cannot get redirects back from facebook properly working to record the sent requests, and removal of the requests is also being problematic. The issue is facebook has designed this dialog to be used on canvas applications running in a iframe on facebooks website like all other facebook apps and games. It no longer functions correctly on websites, and they now state this in the docs for the dialog.

So i have no choice at this time but to depreciate my inviter module until i can find a reliable way of sending invites.

Many still have my old inviter working, others do not. Facebook will no longer support FBML as of Jun 1, 2012 so all old versions should stop working by then,

I apologize for this, however there is nothing i can do at this time. I will continue to look for alternate methods and eventually develop a new version when one is found. But right now i must move on to other things.

Hi deano

How are you doing ? i just want to find out if there is any news on the facebook inviter ?

thank you

  Danny

14 May 2012

Facebook has still not provided an alternative, but i have been playing with some ideas. Nothing solid yet but i may have found a way to provide similar functionality to my previous module with some alternate methods.

If it works it will not be quite as easy to set up as it will require namespace and canvas settings on the facebook side so it will need its own dedicated app on facebook. I will also have to provide canvas page services for this thing as well as most people will not be able to do it on their own servers because of facebooks requirements for both http and https urls.

Things look promising so far, but i am not done with my tests. Soooo do not get your hopes up. It may not pan out.

I would prefer it if facebook would provide a usable alternative to their old fbml based multi friend selector.

sound  good i hope it would work. i dont know why facebook is doing this they have over 500 million members already they need to give us some to :) keep up the good job i always check your post to see if u have new mods that i can use :)

As i am playing with this thing, i decided i was going to build my own friend selector dialog. This was so it would match the template of whatever site it's running on, and have css you can tweek even more rather that being forced to use the facebook colors.

What a nightmare that is turning out to be. I am at 500 lines of php and javascript code and the selector is only half done.

Running on my site tho so i can play with it as i work on it. It's pretty cool so far.

Just to give everyone an update.

I have found a way to get around the issues i was having with the changes facebook had made and even though they have not provided a suitable replacement for the old fbml based multi-friend-selector i have found a way to make the new requests system work despite the fact that it was not intended for use on websites.

The new version is 3 weeks into development and is about 1-2 weeks away from release. The new interface is being tested on my site and i believe most will find it better than the old interface. No longer will you be stuck with the facebook look. The new interface i wrote myself, and uses dolphin technology so it will inherit the look of the template your using and can be even further customized with the css and templates just like any other dolphin module.

So. New version is on the way to replace the current version which for most no longer functions.
