Facebook Clone Sites & SEO

well let me start like that.

through my installs of my mods and in this forum i very very often see sites that are setup like facebook,

with splash pages, facebook template clones, you have to register first and all content sites blocked by visitors,

thousands of dollars investigated, thousand of fake profiles.....

...but where are the main visitors...where are the new members that join, and i am not speaking from a few on a day.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

everybody wants a site like facebook....and yes i am also often at facebook online,

but i would never setup my site like facebook.

if you want a site working like facebook than you need much money to investigate for tv,newspaper, radio, press, sponsoring etc....

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

so how do you get your visitors on your site that it gets a small business?

the most visitors are still coming for unknown sites through searchengines where content is found.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

but the searchengines must find content on your site, and this is not possible if you make all modules only visible for members.

it is also not possible to share this content proffessionell on the social sites, because they cannot find these urls when they are blocked for visitors.

in all searchengines content is king...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

so many dolphin users should think about their project and where they want to go with it?

- have a site like facebook, then investigate many many money in public relation and for the most internet users is one facebook site enough

- or try to build up a site with good content which if found by all searchengines and which bring your many many visitors which could also join your site.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and the last thing which i don´t understand is:

- here are so many users which install the d7 system where the technique requirements are not given on the host

- also the server is much too slow for the system - i would never visit this site again with all this things which load

- users have all modules installed and all blocks on main page activated so that all is too much for the visitors - less is sometimes more

- flash templates installed - flash is out

so please...before you investigate thousands of dollars in modules, think about a good server for your system that your site loads fast !!!!

p.s. you don´t need my seo sitemap generator if you block all links for visitors

Templates have nothing to do with SEO and how your site is seen IMO..

see for your self with these screen shots or do a search for yourself to test.

this is a small snap, the attached image is a larger image of the text..

all those SEO tools are not necessary.

I have been doing SEO for many years and only the last year did I figure it out. My business relies on seo, 100% of my traffic comes from natural searches. One thing I can tell you is you need to be realistic… don't think it will be possible to rank high for keywords like "social networking" "dating site" etc ... don't waste your time. Ok now that’s out of the way.. Profile content is not really seo friendly... the reason is most profiles don't have enough content. Also you need to have a nice amount of contect per

if google scans your profile and comes accross many

hey hows it mate bla bla

yea not bad bla bla

etc lol then it will know that your paragraphs aren’t very informative and your site content value will be low... yes content is king but not yours.. Another issue is content vs code ratio... you have many profiles with the same code and not much content, to google this has a high duplicate page ratio... I hope that makes sense..

I know I'm not very good at explaining but you get the idea.. I could go on for hours on this subject. The best thing to do is not to allow google to index profile pages. Create custom pages which load fast... keep modules down to a minimum... then fill these pages with full content blocks with the keywords you want to rank for.

an example.. you could create a Q&A pages... or pages with content about anything. Templates do play a part in seo... speed is important.. many cms templates have really bad seo coding structure and yet because they use 100% CSS they think it's seo friendly... lol NOT Goto your home page of your social networking site and remove most modules, then view your page source code and look how bad the code is... I was shocked when I saw how many templates claimed to be SEO friendly and yet they have such a high code ratio.

If I end up choosing dolphin for my networking site I will have to make big changes to templates, I will then share with other users the template with different styles. Oh and don't bother with software which auto creates links from directories, bookmarking sites etc... they are a waste of money... I know I spent a lot for the first years of doing seo. I have this software on my computer and I don't bother using them. anyway I hope I have been helpfull :)

Hi there,

I have the facebook template and I wanted to ask if you guys know on which file can I edit the 'meta name description' and the 'title' that shows on google search results page.

Basically I want to edit the description on my site that shows in google search.

I'll appreciate the help because I couldn't find it.

Thanks.
