why not create categories or channels, that would make sense. In my opinion Albums are more like for music which it is Ok I guess.
media uploads should be flexible for every type of sites. Categories suits beeter for everyone... One can name categories such as Action, Drama, or Commedy...whatever you like
Let categories have subcategories, this way allows admin to have more control over the site and layout. Maybe Album is Ok for those user who would like to have private stuff.
You guys should check other video upload sites. So that you could voice your opinion. Dolphin is great, it has very cool features but that video categories is killing it from day one when it first started.
I was running dolphin since version 5 and I have not been able to market it because the music and video categories; And I have not found any decent module for media categories. I can almost guess that many of you are in the same situation.
I don't think dolphin 7 public version will solve my issue if they keep it with the current media module. Dolphin 7 media management sucks.
I hope someone with sufficient programming skills would help the developers team to help them develop it and make it a real cool usefull software.
I am real disappointed, because I have not been able to solve the upload video problem ( error! file not found ) I am sure it is not cron issue. I have modified the time on cron and I know for sure cron is running. if I tail the log messages on my server I can see cron executing commands.
Anyway thanks to all of you reading this post.

Everyone's complaining about the albums, but they do serve a pretty pratical purpose for the photos at least.
Facebook and myspace uses albums too. But they are mor organized.
You can have a really nice album system with the cureent beta versions, you just have to be crafty enough to be able to organize it.
PM me and I'll show you an example of how it can work nicely.

Webreplicomplainer, it seems that you do not realize that Dolphin 7 is a social networking platform, and NOT a video hosting script. If you want something that does what you have described, then I can't imagine why you would even be looking at Dolphin. Rather than pissing and moaning and belching how badly this script suits your needs, go find someone with enough sense to help you pick the right script for your application.
Excuse me everybody, but idiots like this one piss me off. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |

cant please them all. He should check out http://www.cliphousedemo.com/

yes I am a complainer...but complaining also helps, if no one would complain then there would be no changes on the script.
I complained about the birthday at the signup form. I noticed about 3 other people complained and they fixed it. I am glad they fixed, it it is much better now.
I may be an idiot, and I accept when I am an idiot. But persistent idiots like me makes things happen. Let me ask you this, would you run a production site with the current album module.
Thing makes sense when it is organized:
* Creating Album form is ok,
* Once an album exist then display a link to Create SubAlbum
Upload Process
1. upload media
2. select the Album or subAlbum -destination
3. make it public or private [check box or dropdown]
4. Enter title of media
5. Description of media
Click on Submit / Upload Button
Album or categories or whatever is the same crap! The point is that it should be simple and organized.
This would be just the same as an Ecommerce. There are Categories, subcategories products and description of the product.
Yes I am an Idiot because I am not a programmer, but I have common sense.
Thank you smarty Houston

So you have common sense? When will we get to see some of it? Sub albums? Why don't you go on Facebook and see if you can create some sub albums.
Now go buy a media hosting script, and stop bothering people. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
Let's not make this like an American town hall meeting Houston. You have strong ideas on how the media albums should work, but I would occassionaly like to hear other opinions, even if I don't necessarily agree with them. Webreplicator, you are not bothering me.

Can't help it Rob. When I hear incredibly stupid shit like this, I speak up. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
Now if webreplicomplainer want's to complain about something useful, she could go complain about Orca and the lack of sub-forums My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
Oh, gosh...Houston just made a complaint about sub-forums.
I guess I just made my point
Thank you.

No. You didn't. You are obviously very young and very inexperienced at this sort of thing, so I'm not going to waste any more of my time discussing your ridiculous rants. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
After careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that the media upload process does, indeed, suck..... but not for the reasons you suggest.
Media upload sucks because:
1. There is no progress indicator to show the person uploading the media, that something is actually happening. Sitting on the same page watching an hourglass for 20 minutes is well beyond my level of endurance.
2. Navigation away from the upload page terminates all uploads as far as I can tell. You must halt all site browing from that page, and open a new browser session to continue viewing the site. It would be nice if the media upload popped up a new window that minimized itself once the 'submit' button was clicked, then play a sound or something once the upload was complete. This way, the user could continue browsing the site without worrying about inavertently hitting the browser back button.

I definitely could not agree more, especially about not having some sort of progress bar to at least give you some sort of indication that the upload is actually working, or has begun to work. And honestly I havent even checked to see before if when you navigate away from the page does the upload still work. Which you are right it doesn't. I am not sure if that would be considered a bug or just something that should definitely be fixed.
