I think this would be a good enhancement for Dolphin 7.1
The suggestion is, to popup a javascript action menu when you hover on a members username. The popup menu would include some of the most often used actions.
One demo is worth a thousand words, so you can have a look at what I mean here: http://houstonlively.com/
The demo is the block on the right hand side titled 'Member Popup Demo' Just hover on the simulated username and select one of the items. The 'Invite to chat' link doesn't really behave right, but it is just a demo and should give you a good idea what I'm talking about.
This demo won't last forever, so I hope someone from Boonex staff will accept the suggestion and add it to 7.1 as an enhancement.... if it is deemed worthwhile, that is. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
It does have it and worked great in beta 7, now not so much. It looks like this when it does work.

Strange... That has never worked for me. I had a look at the D7 demo site to check it out, and I noticed that you have to hover about 3 seconds or more to get that overkill of a popup to appear. That's never going to work. It will never occur to site members to hover on a link for that long.
That's an overkill if I ever saw one. There's really no need to display all those fancy buttons... text links will do just fine, and the thing will popup a lot faster when you don't have to load all the extra stuff. It should happen almost instantly, and should go away all by itself on mouseout.
Anyway, thanks for the heads-up. After seeing that, this thread should be renamed "Simplify popup action menu...." My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
One more thing.... that popup action menu, only seems to work when you are on the main members page, or a page with some type of memebrs block. If that's by design, and not a bug, it's not going to do much good... especially when the member list grows to thousands of people. Is that by design?
I want a popup action menu that works site-wide, so that hovering on a member's name Anywhere, pops up an action menu.

Wow. I just discovered that this "works" on my own site. It just never occured to me to hover on a thumbnail for that long. If I, as the site admin, never figured out it was there, I don't think members ever will.
So..... back to my original reason for this post. A popup action menu on hover, that you can easily discover, would be a nice enhancement. (Kinda like the one in my demo) Sometimes 'more' is not better. Sometimes less is better. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
it works anywhere on the site not just the homepage
and in the admin section advanced setting /
default is set to 3 => change it to 0 will reduce the waiting time
|
Even set to zero, the popup takes 2 seconds to appear, and it's behavior is erratic. Not acceptable. The popup is way too bloate. It needs to be simplified for it to be useable. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |

@Houston
we can mod that so that it works the way you want,
the idea here was for it to be also beautiful i guess... that's why it
loads so many images. 4 for each button x number of buttons plus 9 bor
the box plus 2 for the chatbox... not to mention the js script that
loads it!51 image files plus script that is!
we could reduce this to 1 for each button(just nice to have icons), so it will be a total of 11(with the chatbox)!

With all images stripped off except of the 11 icons, it takes the actions box 1 second to appear (with the fade in transition effect active). If we strip the fade in effect it should take even less than a second! |
