EU Cookie Law

Hi Guys, what about Dolphin complying with the new EU Cookie laws that are reputedly now going to be enforeced in the UK. Over the last two weeks most sites now have a means to deal with cookies and/or obtain the required informed consent (e.g. bbc.co.uk/). Essentially, if on a site, users should have a method of being able to turn off particular cookies (as per the bbc functionality example).

Some more info here:

Please use this to inform your site users about cookies on Dolphin-based sites.

Dolphin stores authentication information (user id, password hash and session id) in cookies.

In case of Facebook authentication, facebook session is stored.

Also conditionally maybe be stored:

- current language

- current template

- referred friend id

- member floating menu position

- read topics in forum

- answered polls

Please note that 3rd-party mods can store own cookies as well, you need to contact mod author for more information.

Hi AlexT, thanks - it's kind of like a site/script needs to have the new cookie requirements built into it (or available as a plugin), because the info needs to be clear on login or joining & visiting. Also, anything else aside from that absolutely required for basic site operation (and/or persistent cookie based) is meant  to be able to be opted in/out by a user.

So the info you've listed would be useful to have on a page (which also contains opt in/out tools) but more functionality is required than that alone - I believe to meet the requirements of the legislation. The opt in/out tools need to affect site operation as well. Things like: read topics in forum & referring friend ID - are both potentially infringing of privacy (& though they are sessionID based - can still be available for the next site visited in same browser session to inspect).

We have created a dedicated module for Dolphin.

You can see it at work on our demo site http://dolphinextensions.com

The module is not available on the market because we are waiting more feedback.

If you want to report something, you can write on this forum:
