Don't forget the trailing slash

I just cloned my site so I could test some module updates before applying them to the production site.  I use cp -rp to clone the site files and then setup a new database and imported the database from the production site.  I went into /inc and edited the header.inc.php file so that site root and url and database pointed to the correct ones.  I saved out the header.inc.php file, cleared /cache and /cache_public and then went to the site to find that the CSS had not loaded as well as missing images etc.  A horrible mess.  I entered the backend and found the same; a horrible mess.  I clicked on a link in the admin to go to the cache settings and got my DNS handler telling me that the domain could not be found.  I looked at the browser url and saw that my link was http://myniftysite.comadministration/ and I said oops, I left off the trailing slash.  So back to edit the header.inc.php to put that very important trailing slash back where it needed to be.

It's also partially programmers fault. Caused by forgetfulness.

This is a area where human error could easily be compensated for by coding. But developers quite often forget to check for simple silly things like that. I do it myself.

roflmfaop - I deleted a whole site by mistake from not paying attention, and did not have a backup.

Oh god... many hours of my life could have been saved if I just remembered to include or remove a simple character... I hate that.

Don't forget periods either.. if you miss a period, it'll wreck your day.

I have nightmares about that. Fortunately it's only happened on my QNX box. Smile
