Dolphin's Database Backup System

This is a continuation of a thread on a different topic http://www.boonex.com/unity/forums/#topic/language-compilation-can-mess-up-the-script-.htm - I just have a simple question but decided this deserved it's own thread.

We were taking about the importance of using the Dolphin backup facility, and I and at least one other- Mscott, thought it was pretty well done and easy to use.   In a previous post, however, I mentioned that you never really know how good a backup system is, until you try to use its "restore".

Now I am in a situation where I may need to use "restore" (to get my "membership" field back, as described in another post).  Could someone tell me if you can easily go back and forth among different "restores" - assuming you have made no major other changes to the code.  In other words, can I go to a previous "structure and content" backup- look at it, and then go back to the most recent backup if I decide it wouldn't help to revert.

I may be a little paranoid - could someone who has done a restore reassure me (or not).

Thanks

Rob

You can restore the content and structure at anytime and then you can use that backup to restore your database to that state at any time. But there should be no change done to the structure of database.

Just an additional note: SOME mods make changes/additions to the default Dolphin database structure.  Make sure that you are restoring a data structure that has all your structure mods in it.  Otherwise, there is the possibility that some of your mods may not function with an older structure.

You will know if this is the case as you will get MySQL errors when using an older data structure.
