Dolphin and Facebook

I have noticed lately that connect with facebook no longer works, just takes the user to their facebook home page, and adding our dolphin as a facebook app also no longer works. Something somewhere has changed as both of the above worked fine before. anyone know how I can fix this? (In terms suitable for someone at advanced moron level please)

Cannot help you with such a vague post, and facebook apps are not necessary for FB connect to work right.

There has been an update to the FB connect module from boonex.

Try and apply the fix.

 is not working because facebook change the way to use they API,  you need a certification authorities in your site.

SSL certificate

 no, your wrong about this too. SSL is only required if you have made a fb app and need to show your page on FB.

I have done this with one site and it works perfect.

Newton... any chance you can explain in simple terms how to make mine work as an app again (it used to)

Your site has to have a valid SSL cert.

Now the FB app inside FB has nothing to do with your FB connect module not working.

The only way I can help further is if I have access to your site as admin, and you need to provide a screenshot of your settings on the developers.facebook.com page you have setup.

OK, my settings are same as yours. I have just discovered, if I search friendzspace as an app while NOT logged in, I get 'cannot be displayed in a frame' So, I go to it on web, login, then do the fb thing again, Perfik!

and I wouldnt know how to add ssl to it. The fb connect may be a different matter but would like it to work :) Mine just redirects to members home page, and I cannot find the fix to download

 You have to purchase SSL cert and that will make your whole site https..

Yes it is a bit complicated to get it all to work right..

OK, lets scrap the ssl side for now, where can I get the update to make fb connect work? (I think its a tad over my head to do manually)

For SSL cert. you will require a dedicated IP from your host and then you would need to purchase an SSL certificate which your host should be able to help and install for you.

I am pretty sure this may not apply to you, but Facebook changed it policies just recently and starting blocking a lot of apps. You can read some of their stories about it at the links below.

I think my computer hates me!!!!!

I was asked to bring it up to date from 7.o.7 The upgrade from .7 to .8 went perfik, even I could do it. BUT After uploading the files for .8 to .9 i went to domain/upgrade and got error 403 forbidden. I even re-uploaded everything, same result! What did I screw up?

I went with plan B! Scrapped it and did a new fresh install of 7.1 Newton, login is the same as you have.Need easy to follow instructions on calendar fix  for chrome

 Did you really scrap the site, I just got in and was going to fix the upgrade..

Will login.. the calendar fix is just uploading of two files back to server, Deano has the files attached on the other post I sent you.

well you said you couldnt get in, plus it all fell over on upgrading so I scrapped it and started again. you should avoid the chrome prob, I removed the d.o.b. field. oh, and try fb login first just to see if it has worked, but I dont think it works at all

 Used FB connect and it all worked.. congratulations..

well that has suprised me! I have had my FB friends all try, and out of 6, only 1 said it worked, and on checking I think he fibbed cos there is nothing there to say I have a new member!  But I can see that it worked for you cos there you is, on my members list!

 It did work, but the communication between the two to complete the join did take some 20 seconds to do.

Maybe they are all using the wrong one.

Newton is demoing mine in the video. But the drop down also shows the boonex version is installed as well.

And i really hope Daveb purchased my module under a different account. As it stands now, i have no evidence of purchase, thus his site should not even have mine installed.

 that's because your site has no SSL access, and that is not Dolphin related.

Gentlemen, just to clarify....

As I said to you Michael, I worked out the reason that I thought I had a old version of that nice Mr Deano's connect a while back, it was actually his connect BUTTON info I had, not the program. I was using the inbuilt facebook connect by boonex. As you know I have been faffing about trying to get the boonex fb connect working for a while, with your help, as it stopped working a while back and I could not see any reason why, and you did eventually manage to use it. MEANWHILE My friend Terry had also been playing with it for me, and this morning he told me he had unexpected funds in his paypal so he purchased for me the most excellent mod written by Deano, which I then installed. If this is a problem for either, then I am sure we can resolve it without any of us sulking :)

 No problem here; I just don't want to get in trouble with modules and rights to use them.

 AHA! I did notice on the developer page it said somethingabout secure access being required from oct 1, obviously that was last october. So, if I have a word with my hosting provider and set up a secure server, as in an actuall https instead of a theoretical one, all will work app wise?

I also do not have a major problem with that. I prefer the person i am providing support for is the one that made the purchase. However you will need to keep in mind that if you need support for the mod in the future then either the person that purchased it needs to make contact with me, or you will need to obtain the paypal payment transaction ID for proof of purchase as i don't normally provide support if i cannot verify purchase.

I am speaking with my man even as I type... Now I need to ensure Deano is happy! Just had a word with terry, he says to mention to Deano it was purchased  " under my u/n: easyhost and he told me "It is suppose to be on a per site basis. I do allow it to be run on up to 2 sites." and its on 2 sites" As Deano is a veritable genius, and I most definately do NOT want to upset him, so if he is in any way unhappy, please ask him to come back and I shall do my utmost to put his smile back :)

Thats also not even related to the facebook connect mod. Just facebook, it's app, and the ability for it to communicate with your server. So it has nothing to do with dolphin or the facebook connect module.

Ok, so that's what that conversation was about.

I also believe i mentioned that it may change in the future when i add licensing to the module which will be done at some point in the future which will restrict the mod to running on only one site.

Thanks for that Deano and Newton, I didnt know, which is why I was asking, and I am now in discussion with my host to find out how I can make it https and get ssl :)

 He did tell me that it will be restricted to a one per user in the future, and I believe he had the conversation with you to establish if it was ok to use on more than one site. I swear with hand on heart, there was, and still is, no intention of ripping you off, (hence his enquiry) and if you feel that I should have to pay to use it on a second installation, I cannot argue as you are the vendor and owner of the most excellent product. Just let me know and we will get it all sorted and make you a happy Deano again :)

Did not mean to cause issue deano92964. as Dave says no malice is intended, infact our sites are live sites but also demo sites at the same time as I am a host I offer pre built dolphin sites, so will most likely be purchasing this mod again in the future as orders come in for hosting packages.
