Dolphin 7

Just wanted to ask with the imminent release of 7, how easy is it to update dolphin as i havent got a clue. I once updated a phbb3 and that was a hair raising experience, and thats just a forum, so goodness only knows what it will be like to update Dolphin.

This is where test sites become so valuable.  By creating a test site and deploying all mods/hacks on it before you go near your production site the production site can run seamlessly and you look like a genius to your members.

thats really good advice is that, i do have a test site on hostpapa but its, erm.... crap, so i think when the times comes i will be experimenting with that to see how it goes. I dont think ive made too  many modifications on my site for it to make any difference, but i know these updates can be a bit fraught sometimes. i do love the new 7, its amazing really, and they say the bells and whistles havent been put on it yet... Amazing job, clever this lot arent they... :-)

The best advice I can give you if your in this situation, with a bad test site, is to copy everything over from the production site to the test sites directory, including the sql and such and update it so the test site does work.  Then, do your upgrades to 7 on that test site and keep notes on everything you do.

Would it be a bad Idea to set up a test site using the same database as your live site?

I have two web sites, www.asia-connect-th.com and www.av-techonline.com. With the new Dolphin i am thinking of making them one site with the web address taking them to there respective areas. Obviously I would need two 'Home' pages.

Question: is this a viable idea and do-able?

Cheers,

Stuart
