This can be related to https.  If you set the site up to use https but call the site with http, then the icons will not show properly.  One thing to do if you are running the site on https is to make sure that in the server you redirect any http calls to https.  This is done differently depending on if you are using Nginx or Apache.  If you are using cPanel, you can set it up in cPanel to make sure any http is redirected to https.  I don't recommend doing it in the .htaccess file unless that is the only method for you to use.  It is better to do it at the webserver.
