Dolphin 7.1 & Mysql

It has been reported that Dolphin makes many duplicated (and unnecessary) calls to the database, has this problem been resolved in D7.1 or do we have to wait until D8?

hmm! i don't think dolphin is mad to make unwanted mysql calls lol. Dolphin use mysql persistence connection in which after a query is run it doesn't close the connection and in future if needed use the same connection. It might improve performance.

so much to do....

There has been a lot of debate about the way D7 uses the database, repeating queries when that information has very recently been requested and so on. If you search the forum you will find a very eloquent post that describes the problem in great detail.
