Just made a brand-spanking new, fresh clean install of 6.1.6 and here is what happened .....
After clicking the "INSTALL" button on the install page I came to the Permissions page where it showed all the files in the left column as GREEN and writable with the exception of the "ray/modules/global/app/ffmpeg.exe" even though I had NOT changed any permissions.
I clicked the "NEXT" button and received this error message: "Next files have inappropriate permissions: ray/modules/global/app/ffmpeg.exe;"
I backed up to the permissions page again and changed the "ray/modules/global/app/ffmpeg.exe" file to executable and clicked the "NEXT" button at which point it threw NO errors. (even though I had only changed the "ray/modules/global/app/ffmpeg.exe" file)
All "OK" on the paths page and clicked "NEXT" (no errors)
Setup the Database page and clicked "NEXT" (no errors)
Setup the configuration page and clicked "NEXT" (no errors)
Clicked next on the Cron Jobs page (no errors)
All the directories and files on the permissions reversal page shows RED "writeable" (even though I had only changed the "ray/modules/global/app/ffmpeg.exe" file)
Checked all the permissions and they were CORRECT (since they were never changed)
Clicked "CHECK" with no change .... reloaded page with no change .... clicked "NEXT" with the following errors: Next directories have inappropriate permissions: inc; periodic; Next files have inappropriate permissions: periodic/cmd.php; periodic/notifies.php; periodic/cupid.php; ray/modules/global/inc/header.inc.php;
Clicked "SKIP" and said "Dolphin Installed" (no errors)
Removed the install directory and refreshed and there was Dolphin 'apparently' OK ....
Anyone know what's wrong with this story???
Is this a case of Deja vu or am I going blooooweeee again????

I had the same exact thing on perms rollback. I reported it, but it wasn't fixed.
There are serious problems with permissions and the installer. One guy had problems getting past the initial page on a Fedora server (if I remember right).
I skipped the last page and I haven't had any problems so I don't think you should worry.
Hopefully they will fix these issues with 6.17

That was kind of the point ..... we have been waiting on things like this and
others to be fixed since ver 5x .....
Seems they're getting worse instead of better .....
|
I think this will be gone in next bug fix. There are more people who report this. Kids first |
I have installed many... if you are changing the permissions via the cpanel you will run into this issue but if you use an FTP program (I use coreFTP) I don't have that issue.. I believe it has something to do with the cpanel side of it. :) |
Has any Boonex staff read my post?

Sorry about that RumpyBumpy - I quick read the post and missed the underlying point.
@twolf - it's not a CPanel vs FTP issue. I only know this because I set my permissions via FileZilla, not CPanel.
There does seem to be a server element to this problem. I participated in a thread earlier, where the problem turned out to be a server running Fedora. In my case - it's CentOS. I would be interested in seeing the issues at install as compared to the server OS.
I'm not saying that it is the server OS for sure, but in the case of the Fedora server - he believed this to be the problem.
.....now why this just seemed to rear its ugly head with 6.16...................................
|
I've installed every version since v6.0.0005 on this server and never had this problem.
HTH . |
They showed them as being green, but still had a different permission level - correct? The same thing happened to me. I think the 6.1.5 upgrade, and then the 6.1.6 patch caught many of us by surprise. Most of us had planned to go directly from 6.4 directly to 7. 6.4, for all its faults, was more or less stable and well understood and I think Boonex rushed these "bug fix" versions out the door - and it seems to have more than just bug fixes they seemed to have partly put some features in there also. I agree, they made it worse, and made a ton of work for everybody. |
There seem to be problems with the upgrades regardless of sys. I also use centos. The upgrades went smoothly but functionality was lost. Some things work, others don't. I do have mods and if Boonex is going to promote them and make a place to sell them, they should have to comply with the same standards and upgrade them at no cost and readily available. Not my intention to change the topic, but mods can affect the entire site. If the code changes so should the mod. Make it all uniform. |
I upgraded from 6.1.5 tot 6.1.6 after that Tiny MCE was not loading overall on the site, now we know that some servers (mine use Feodora) cam't handle it when magic_quotes_runtime is ON, so after set this to OFF the problems are gone.
Before I had not this problem at all. Kids first |

Now this i would like to know more about. I am writing scripts for linux dedicated platforms for assisting with dolphin installs. I would like to know if your issue was with your own CentOS server or one thats hosted?
For those interested in knowing, CentOS, RedHat Enterprise and Fedora all have one thing in common. All recent versions have SELinux on and defaulting to enforcing mode on new installs of the OS.
SELinux will interfear with dolphin or more accurately apache. SELinux needs to be set to permissive mode until dolphin is installed and all the errors SELinux throws up are fixed before switching it back to enforcing mode.
Personally i leave SELinux off, but thats just my choice.

Hi
I have been having the same difficulties...It all goes smoothly till the reversal of permissions. The problem that i see is for reversal of permissions it asks for non-writable perms. But in the detailed report it says differently. If i click the check button it says
Next directories have inappropriate permissions: inc; periodic; Next files have inappropriate permissions: periodic/cmd.php; periodic/notifies.php; periodic/cupid.php; ray/modules/global/inc/header.inc.php;
I have been stuck at this for quite sometime now...Does anyone have a solution ?
|
Just skip over the perm reversals.
The installer has been causing all kinds of problems. I *believe* they are going to release a version 6.17 which will hopefully address this, but I'm not sure.

I have also done a fresh new install of 6.1.6. Everything says it is writable except for something in Ray...an executable. I change that and all goes green. I go past all the other screens filling out all the correct info. I then get to the permission reversal and it has inc, periodic, and ray/modules/global/inc/header.inc.php need to be Non-writable. I change the inc and periodic and the ray.....the first two appear green, but the ray/modules/global/inc/header.inc.php stays red. I try to SKIP this step, but it flashes the script is not installed and then takes me back to the very first page to install again. What is going on here?!?!?!?! Can anyone help me fix this? Has anyone else had the same problem?? Someone please help I need someone to answer.
Thanks in advance,
in serious need
