Difference between banned and suspended?

In reactivating accounts I got a dozen or so email bouncers.  Rather than edit the record and change the status to "suspend" I hit the "banned" link.  When I went in, I saw that the account is still active, but the link had turned red. What  is the practical difference between the two?  I wish there was also a "suspend" button.

I didn't realize users could suspend their own accounts.  So that must be the difference.  I don't have time to test right now, but with a suspended account, the member can log back in and "unsuspend" himself - is that correct?  I just found what I thought had been an active member with a suspended account, and I'm not sure if I did it by accident.  Is there any way to check?

I think the "suspend" was a feature in D6. I do not see that option in D7. As far as banning someone. The user is still active in the system, however they cannot login to the site.

The Activate/Deactivate feature in D7 is when you have "email activation" on. If the member never clicks the activation link, they will remain in "deactivated" (greyed out) status until they do. You can manually "Activate" the user instead of them clicking the email confirmation link, if you choose.

If you have any members banned or deactivated, they would show in the member controls. You can click the link from there to see all the members in that particular status.

Yes, suspend is part of D7.  It can be done from the admin panel, or as I said it can even be done by the user.  Look at your status in the Account Control box.  I was just asking if a person suspended, and reactivate their own account, or if it has to be done by admin.
