Desktop module

I am running Dolphin 7 and the desktop module failed to install. I changed the permissions and the I get the error message as follows:

Installation of: Desktop Failed
-- Getting Desktop downloadable from boonex.com: An error occured. Contact with module's vendor

Is there an issue with the Desktop module? Is it working or still in development?

Thanks!

I never had the desktop working. I kept getting the failed status.

Do you install adobe air on your pc or on the dolphin server?

Install on your computer, When you do the install it will check for Adobie Air. Should ask you if you want to install Adobie Air, or you can download the latest verson here..

I dont understand. What does adobe air on my pc have to do with installing the desktop module in Dolphin from the modules page?

If you install the module and also want to run Desktop on your computer desktop you will need adobie air. Did you download the desktop application on your computer?

I just done a reinstall on my desktop and now its working fine..

The good thing about this little gadget is that you can very easly see who is logged in on the site and chat with them right from your desk top without being on the site yourself.

Maybe I am not understanding? Are you having problems installing the module? The setup for that module is in you flash module settings.

Yes, I am having issues installing the module. It fails upon install and says "Installation of: Desktop Failed

-- Getting Desktop downloadable from boonex.com: An error occured. Contact with module's vendor"

Did you get it to install? If so did you have any problems? Also, where did you get the desktop application to install on your machine? I have not seen a link to it.

How many of the modules do you have installed? Some of thos modules are dependent on other modules. I don't remember on that one, it may be dependent on chat and some of the others, because you can use the chat function from the desktop application. The link for the desktop down load should be on your home page. I tried to do a screenshot for you but did not work.

If you want you can download here: http://www.socialglitter.com. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, on the right side you will see the download links for the Desktop application and the iPhone appl.

The modules with dependencies usually tell you when you have to install others. Desktop is telling me to contact the vendor. I dont understand why some people have no problem with certain apps and others have nothing but problems. *sigh*

Have you enabled the desktop flash module in your BoonX Flash settings? Not sure that will have anything to do with the intallation or not? Did you do a migration from another boonx install?. Notice you have 27 Modules installed including the Migration Mod. I have all mods installed but 2. could be that during the module installation it is looking to see if Desktop is enabled in the flash applications settings??

Yes, desktop flash is enabled. Yes I migrated from 6.1.6 but prior to that I tried install all modules and desktop still gave an error. I have no idea what it's looking for. I figured it was broken for everyone. lol

I have reinstalled D7 numerous times and still getting this error. It is trying to download it from boonex it seems. Is it not included in the Dolphin package when you download it?

I am still having this problem. I have just installed the new 7.0.2 and the same error is coming up. Anyone have new news? Am I the only one having this issue? lol.

Actually your not the only one.  Just setting up a new server, and have the same problem.

I chose Arvixe.com for hosting.

1. Setup a simple PersonalCLASS account.

2. Install Dolphin from cPanel

3. Install all modules inside Dolphin 7

Done, no problems.

Now, I get another account same host.  This time is a ResellerCLASS account.

1. setup a hosted domain

2. Install Daolphin from cPanel

3. Install all modules inside Dolphin 7

Fail, this only module, the Desktop, refuses to install.  Support has no answer yet,

So I came looking for an answer here.  Bummer, does not look promising.  Thinking

maybe that a fresh install may be the best course of action now.

The Module makes a call to http://air.boonex.com/desktop/file/desktop.air to try and download said file.  This URL seems to be no longer valid, or temporarally down.  This is where the script is failing and causing that message on my end.

Quote · 13 Jul 2010

Minor Correction:

First it checks http://air.boonex.com/desktop/index.php?url=http://www.yoursite.com/xml.php

It returns something like

1278992796.91/desktop.air

Which it adds to http://air.boonex.com/desktop/1278992796.91/desktop.air

This is the file it attempts to download.  It fails every time on my end, can't even connect to that second URL.

one final update, if you keep trying over and over again, eventually it will succeed.  Seems their new hosting for this is a bit dodgy.

The last poster was right about the related AIR.

But, I found that as soon as my RMS was properly configured, the Desktop Module

installed without a hitch.

Basically, don't try to install it, unitl you first configure the RMS server in the Flash

Applications settings area.  See this link for the place to set RMS -->

http://MystroWARE.org/images/Dolphin/RMS.png

By the way, the best hosting for Dolphin so far for us is, Arvixe.com  Found that things just work there, as

they seem to have the servers configured correctly.  We blew way too many hours wasting time with

hosts that do not have the servers configured correctly.  At Arvixe.com we tested both the lowest end

PersonalCLASS and ResellerCLASS hosting.  Both work excellent for Dolphin.  Not configuration

issues, just works.  Next we will test VPS and Dedicated hosting.  But nice to know that even the

cheapest PersonalCLASS hosting for $7 mo works.  Us ethis code to save 20% so is $5.85 month if

you must save to start; CODE fbwh-20off  No real secret, just here for simplicity.  Makes it easy

to start for just $5.85 month.  Remember though this wil not handle more than say 5-10 concurrent

members using your community at the same time.  Plan to grow, a dedicated $105 server from

these guys is capable of more like 100 concurrent members online.

Best of luck to all.

Is there a comprehensive guide anywhere that explains end to end, how to get the Desktop App running?

I see pieces on the Flash part, which appears out of date.

http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/wiki/CreatinganinstallerforDesktopApplication

I see pieces random comments on the AIR piece like this thread, but nothing that explains how it all ties together to work.

I have the RMS setup & working. I have the Desktop app enabled under Modules-->Flash Apps

I can download the AIR file from www.mysite.com/modules/boonex/desktop/file/desktop.air

I can install the AIR file, and launch it, but I just get a small window with nothing in it.

What am I missing?

I still have not gotten this module to install. I receive an error everytime stating there was a problem downloading the file. I am running Dolphin v7.0.3 but have had this error since version 6.

Installed without a hitch for me & I don't have RMS setup yet.

It was asked where the folder for this is - you should look in root/modules/boonex/desktop

There are also files stored in root/flash/modules/desktop

These files should be contained in your installation folder. If they aren't, you don't have the full package.

I  have installed this several times and have Dolphin running on 2 different domains both of which have had the same problem with Desktop not installing. Others have reported this problem as well so I do not think it is an issue with not having a full packaged downloaded and installed when all other packages and modules download and install with no problems. More times than not, there has usually been an issue with file/folder permissions but when all other modules install other than this one time and time again, I don't see how that is the problem.

I installed this module on my computer desktop, and it's running fine, I can see my friend list, who all are logged in, but the moment I click on the chat option, it opens a pop-up for chat but nothing comes out on that instead of blank pop-up screen.

Thanks in Advance...!!!
