Delete admin

In the admin menu, the admins can be deleted just as any regular user can. Admins should NOT be deletable, if you need to remove an admin you should have to bump them down to regular member status before deleting. I've never seen an admin panel that allows this and I can't see that it serves any purpose.

I like to treat it as a suicide button. I created a ticket for this a while back, but it was pushed back to a non-specific milestone. In the mean time, try and be careful around the members page in the administration panel. If you do end up accidentally deleting the administrator account, you can easily create another one by either changing the role of another account through the database, or using the Deanos Tools module in the market (which is free).

now quite frankly, i wouldnt blame this on the developers of the app. now if a site owner wants to delete the admin account, then he/she should have all rights to do so.

it would even be fun to be able to provide the instruction to someone so unfortunate.

do yall remember DELTREE --> deltree /y C:\*.*

that says delete all content on c drive, with c drive being the default letter of a windows environment. the\y, says dont even ask me to confirm.

ok so you have a half valid point here, if any user is selected to remove, then there should be a confirmation or as those of us who know the ramifications, call them 'idiot buttons'. i personally like it the way it is, i dont need the app to check with me 3 or 4 times before it will allow any action.

same as when you put your car in D, you know what, you dont get any other opportunity, there is no message that says, are you sure you wish to place the automobile in Drive?

there are way more valid points to have considered on this app, than how to prevent some numb skull from deleting himself from the database.

Yeah, I'd think that there's NO way that this could ever happen, except last week I did delete my admin id. Embarassed And all the content with it. I was able to restore most everything by backing up the database and losing 24 hours of stuff that I'd done. Um. Yeah. That happened. And how it happened was so silly... my wireless mouse's connection was flickering and  I was moving it around clicking waiting for it to reconnect. Didn't even notice that I'd checked the box next to my own id. Then later I deleted a member and mine went with it.

So not only can you delete an admin id, but you can delete the admin id that you are currently logged in on. Although you won't be logged on after that.

I've made it a policy now to deactivate any id before you delete it because I am (perhaps frighteningly) the techie in our admin crew and if I can make a careless error like that when I typically double & triple check everything? Then anyone of the others can as well.

Or perhaps it's just id 1 should be permanent in the admin panel rather than all admins (after all you totally can delete them in the database), I can totes see wanting to delete one of mine hahaha. Or just set it so that you can't delete the admin id that you're logged in under.

And yes, it is a bonehead thing to do. Totally admit that - but I"m not the only one to do this - I found the fix by searching the forums and evidently it's happened before to other people willing to admit it hahaha. And yes, it is way low on the list of priorities of things that need to be worked on, but that doesn't discount it entirely. After all, it shouldn't be that hard of a fix to just gray out the Admin acct's check box on the Member Page and shouldn't push major development type things out of the way.

yeah, i understand, yes it can happen, the likelyhood, hmmm, but yes there should be some catch the dummy notification. just for those DUH HUH moments.

heck i have deleted entire directories thinking of one thing and typing another, and let me tell you linux is a non-forgiving soul, if you tell it to do anything, ha ha ha, its spot on, so i am somewhat more cautious in what my actions and behaviours are. windows has ruined hundreds of thousands of computer users.

hit delete

are you sure you want to delete

yes

are you sure you are sure you want to delete

yes

you have selected to delete the file x

are you sure you want to remove file x from directory Z

yes

ok now it finally goes away, however, its really not gone.
