This is very nice but how could I insert a new member into a corresponding group as a fan based from a custom selection from the join page?

Bringing up an old post, but I'd also be interested in the best approach to add a member to a certain group based on fields populated in their profile.

In my situation, if a user selects a certain State/location, I'd like to auto join them to a group I have pre-created for that location. I am just started to look into this now, but any hints or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
