Deactivate caching of css-files

Hi,

I'm new to Dolphin and I'm trying to style a new site.

Unfortunately changing the css-files with the css styles editor doesn't do the job.

The site is loading only one css-file (apparently a cached file that joins all css-files).

How do I deactivate caching of the css-file, so that I can change the css files seperately (with text-editor/ftp)?

Many thanks in advance!

I know firebug.

Unfortunately, that doesn't solve the problem of css-files being cached.

Any more ideas?

cant you even see which files the styles are coming from then?

The files are aggregated to one file, which is named, for example: bx_templ_css_3e1f9989b5a76cd62ebb8fe1037e354e.c

hmmmm that looks very simular to my tiny mce it comes out of this file tiny_mce_4490a91eecf6b6b85d1dc70190ee1a2e.gz it is compressed so the sit runs faster i suppose, i want to figure out how to get my tiny mce out of this compression so we both have a simular problem....I am researching this now

This must be a new way of doing it in version 6.1.5 because it wasnt that way with 6.1.4

Quote · 11 May 2009

I've had an idea, I still have my old 6.1.4 files....so i am going to try and swap the tny mce folder from the old one that works fine (old version) with the new version.

Ifthis works for me we could try doing the same with your css problem.

Fingers crossed

Good to hear, thanks for the effort. Could you please post a step-by-step tut on how to get this thing working?

Maybe you could upload a zipped version of the old TinyMCE?

Thanks in advance!

Quote · 12 May 2009

1) go to /your Dolphin directory/plugins/

2) rename tiny_mce like so : ____________________tiny_mce

3)Dowload the tiny_mce.rar: http://www.darkink-womensclothing.com/DARK-HEARTS1/tiny_mce.rar

4) unpack and upload in the /plugins directory next to the old backup ____________________tiny_mce

5) eat some cake

6) try to use the tiny mce in your site some where

Hope it works for you mate, If it is good mabey we can do the same with the cashing of css-files.

Hmmm well to tell you the truth, when 2012design told me about the bx_templ_css_3e1f9989b5a76cd62ebb8fe1037e354e.c file my ears pricked up and I started to think ok if they have more files like this I am screwed because this seems like compression and my host is already compressing everything as a default practise so none of these DOUBLE compressed files can work for me so It would mean changing them all, how could I be sure that after all my hard work or bodged jobs that dolphin would still work?? so screw this Im going back a step ad Installing the old 6.1.4 I am confident that this is far easy way to get it working!

Any way killerhaai, I swaer I read in another post that some of your groupes and thing are stuck on loading...can you confirm this?

in my admin all my builder section nav, pages, fields are stuck on loading...mabey this is host related? I uploaded with ftp and some things might be missing, one or two php docs seam to have the ends cut short some how (ive just reuploaded some of my admin files and now basic settings is working lol im gonna have to do it again 4times now lol)

do you guys want to try 6.1.4?

screw it, here you go:http://www.darkink-womensclothing.com/DARK-HEARTS1/Dolphin-v.6.1.4-Free.zip

Wait a bit before you click it i am uploading by ftp (the only way i understand)

Lol I dont want to give you a false impression of me, I have only just started with dolphin so my understanding is basic but with constant persistance I will get this done. and I think that we are all in the same boat...

2012design, you should have no problem editing 6.1.4 (that is why i gave u the silly answer before because i asumed it was still easy with 6.1.5)

Killerhaai I think that eather this latest version is mabey not that compatable with our host mabey or that some things are missing .....I tell you what would be exelent; if you were the same as me (I normally use FTP but I am starting to miss trust it, I want to start learning SSH I know a tiny bit) 2 heads are better that one....I know that we can upload a .tar file and unpack it in seconds with out error using SSH.

I hope I have not massivly under-estimated you and I am a donkey taking to a computer wiz kid lol

any ways although our problems 'may be' different we all have the same....we havn't got dolphin working yet.

I am very interested in this LOADING problem Killerhaai...

Quote · 12 May 2009

So far it will only upload to about 60% (not surprising, bloomin FTPUndecided) so I am converting the whole thing to a .tar file, and Im sure I can unpack it server side with SSH

8 attempts later and the highest i have got to is 73%Frown this really is **** me off now! Ive been here for hour

I give up for tonight, I will try n get a better connection tomorow this is a waist of my time for now.

I think my problem doesn't have nothing to do with the TinyMCE, since I'm not even using TinyMCE for CSS editing.

I'm editing the css file(s) with dreamweaver and I'm uploading the edited files via FTP. I need to delete the aggregated CSS-file(s) in /cache_public everytime I edited something!

In Drupal for instance you can deactivate the caching of css-files by simply clicking one checkbox. That's the option I'm looking for in Dolphin.

Thanks for the help, Bamben!

PS: I'm using v7.0 alpha!

2012design,

what I mean to say is, If replacing the tiny mce folder works for you then mabey we can also replace the whole css folder and then you will be able to edit as you like....

bx_templ_css_3e1f9989b5a76cd62ebb8fe1037e354e.c where is this file? which folder? lets try making a back up and switch it for the old 6.1.4 folder!

this might work!

also mabey if you copy the .c file to your descktop and see if you can poke around in it, if you can unpack or decompress it. I bet there is only 1 file inside.

if you can get inside the file and see what it says, I could be interesting. It might point to the php file that give the instruction to go throught this file and not just use the css files.

normally a php file says something like 'include file.css' I wonder what your php files say ....

include bx_templ_css_3e1f9989b5a76cd62ebb8fe1037e354e.c   ???? lol

mabey if we can get the attention of an advanced dolphin user, there is a chance that you could replace the include css part of the code to what ever you like.

make an identical dolphin directory on your desktop Try and run a search in your dolphin for: .php with a word or frase in the file: bx_templ_css_3e1f9989b5a76cd62ebb8fe1037e354e.c

$_page['css_name']   = 'join.css';

and in 6.1.5 is says the same:

$_page['css_name']   = 'join.css';

??????????????????????????????????????????? also I ran a search for the .c file and I cant find it! where is it?

Just want to point out that file extensions are just something to help an os or program that works with those files reconize what type of file it suppose to be.

I can take a .txt file and rename it to a .exe file but it does not make it an exe. The point is the extensions do not always indicate what is contained in the file.

Thats interseting deno I didnt know that.

How have you uploaded killerhaai? because as know know I am still finding it impossable to upload my dolphin using ftp as it always has some bits missing (even if it looks like it is all there) some of my admin pannel is stuck on loading just like your groups forum/newpost and replay page.

I think yove got bits missing bruv...

If I can get the my .tar file (of dolphin) uploaded today then I can unpack it and the job should be done!

the only other thing I can think of killerhaai is if your host and new dolphin dont like each other, so when I upload my .tar file of the old dolphin I will let you try it too and see if it works.....

If that doesnt  workthen I dont know lol I dont know much yet myself.

Quote · 13 May 2009

My host is not the problem, i have my own hired dedicated server, with all settings special for dolphin. :)
The problem is that updated sites or fresh installed sites have the same problems, also its not possible to save html blocks  (all browsers).

I unpack the installation package out of my pc, after that I upload every single map and files to the root of my ftp server.
in binairie.
You must set all teh permissions by hand, but into one hour the site is running.

I am really vey happy todayLaughing

I got dolpin workingLaughing

I think you can too! here is how lol... (I had to scrap even the dolphin I uploaded with the .tar because, it still had peices missing even though I used a high speed connection at the local estate agents lol)

today I put a dedicated couple of hours aside, heres the step by step version:

1) unpacked the zip of dolphin to my desctop

2) open ftp

3) upload the whole of dolphin to my space online

4) re-upload every file one at a time, making sure that eveything was exactly the same

...

There were lots of things missing infact! When ever there was a folder with no files in it (ei: most of the js folders have no files in them) It didnt up load the folder, istead it left those ones out like they were not needed. THE INSTALATION PROSSES ONLY NOTICED SOME OF THIS. On the change permissions page it said permission was at 0 instead of 777, zero because it did not exist!

Killerhaai you must go through your uploaded dolphin like I did! because if you have a dedicated server set up just for your dolphin to run perfectly then your problem MUST be this!!!!! I tryed to set up dolphin 9 times, I tryed to upload my dolphin 18 times EVERY SINGLE TIME it had holes in it....

This is the best advice I have! I hope that you can do it....Infact I know you can!LaughingLaughingLaughing
