Unique visitors is what is says ... the amount of unique visitors you received on one day. However do not put trust in stat sites ... either use Google analytics for true results or view actual server stats.

Correct ... this is why I recommend Google Analytics >> Bots are not counted in stats whatsoever! Google Analytics does not read / record bot visits and IMO is the most accurate stats tool around.
It's possible that the site stats also counts bots visitations.
