Okay, first I'll cover the good, then I'll get to the bad on the D7 E-Mail system:
1. Glad to see the implementation of a contacts list, very good item and thank you Boonex for including this basic functionality that many other SNS's miss out on.
2. Nice to see a trash can where members can retrieve accidentally deleted e-mails.
3. Thrilled to see a normal type editor/text box in here. I was afraid I was going to find that tiny thing in here also.
Now, for the bad:
1. Inability for members to organize e-mail through multiple folders. Give members the ability to create multiple folders in the inbox & outbox. This will cause them to have a stronger desire to use our sites for all their purposes and steer away from the other sites.
2. No Template system, this would be great for those who run groups/events/classifieds on their sites.
3. No Auto-Reply system, this functionality would work great for those who will be away and wish to keep friends/associates up to date and not cause them to feel neglected.
4. No manner to attach photos/files to the e-mails.
5. E-Mail filtering system to allow members to filter out those they do not want to talk to. Many of the members of Unity run sites that have minors and adults on them, we need to be able to allow the minors to filter out contact from those they don't want to talk to and also to allow Admin to have some control over this. Do we really want to be running software on those sites that allow 50 year olds to talk to 15 year olds?
5. No videos in e-mails. With the advent of Videolization Mod from Rayz for D6 and the addition of Video comments to D7 as a standard item, why was this item not added to D7 also?
Okay items 1 through 5 are all items I have in my D6 sites and I expected some of them to make it into D7, again this is a step backwards from what I currently have, looking for more from you Boonex on items that are so simple to have integrated into the system.
