Creating a Blog Mod/Core Improvement

I hate the blogs on Dolphin...correct me if I'm wrong but the name of the blog is your user name and there is no way to change that,,,you can't create blogs using cool templates or a wysiwyg editor.  If I'm looking to compete with Wordpress or Blogger it's not going to happen because the Dolphin blog offering is infantile.  I had the same problem back when I started messing with Dolphin in 2008 and Boonex has done nothing with it...frustrating to say the least.  So I guess what I'm asking...is there a way to create a mod or core improvement to totally revamp blogs feature so that people can create and personalize their blogs with their own name and design with a wysiwyg editor and/or also allow the site owner to add templates...possibly an ecommerce area where people could purchase templates that are compatible for their blog another income stream.
