Complete Features list for dolphin 7

Tried to find a complete features list unsuccesfully, can you please provide me a link?

thanks in advance.Aamer

Seems BoonEx didn't create one for Dolphin 7 (or didn't get around to it, yet). All I can find is an (archived) copy for Dolphin 6, which will serve little use for a proper feature list with a totally revamped version such as 7.

Fortunately, Dolphin is free, and you can easily download a copy and create a free license code under your account settings page. To remove link-backs from BoonEx, the option exists to purchase a payed-license.

Hi Aamer,

Magnussoft is right - some of these things are not yet finished and still waiting for attention after getting the final release out. You did message me and I responded with more details, as you will see. Thanks for the help Magnussoft!

just checking in on that feature list. its been just over 60 days from the release of Dolphin 7, and seems to me that the feature list would have been comprised prior to the programming?

at any rate, there are a ton of folks still looking for the feature list as well as the CRM

It's amazing to me as a marketer to see such an outright plea for help from a customer who practically has their wallet out and their credit card in hand - and yet nobody prowling these forums appears to have the foggiest idea what to do next - like, ohhh...I don't know...maybe....

MAKE A LIST OF DAMN FEATURES!

Look - if you want to just be a shill for Boonex, then go ahead and blame them when your world isn't right-side-up and you're not making any money.(Yes, Magnussoft, annual license sales can generate a commission for the salesperson). Most people choose not to become an affiliate - but some can - and do - make that choice.

Now, if you want to be in your OWN independent business, then you need to start taking responsibility for its success or its failure!

Start marketing YOUR ideas for what you want people to use Dolphin for, and then make those things happen for those people through the use of Dolphin! If you've worked with Dolphin for any length of time, you already know what it will do and what it won't do, feature-wise.

Remember - people aren't going to buy a Dolphin license because of what it can do - they're going to buy it because of what it can do for THEM! Find out what THEY want from a social network/matchmaking site, and then show them how they can accomplish that with Dolphin!

If a competitor can do something beneficial that Dolphin CAN'T, then Boonex needs to be made aware of that. If Dolphin doesn't do something as well as its competition - LIKEWISE.

Otherwise, let's try to focus our efforts on combining our collective experiences and commitments to servicing our own individual clienteles, while making positive contributions to the continued development of the Dolphin platform as the social networking platform of choice.

My business partner and I see tremendous opportunity in the advocacy of the Dolphin social networking platform, with several completely differing market niches presenting some very high-probability promotional numbers.

We'll create our own features manual if necessary - especially if that will facilitate the adoption of Dolphin in the markets we're exploring! (Of course, it would be better if Boonex provided them)

They did this rather dumb video (in my opinion) of the whole staff running around with signs that had the features.   I wrote at the time that it was probably fun, but a simple list would be better - or even a feature matrix.   I have learned not to give Boonex advice - they either do the opposite, or dig their heals in and take no action, even if it is in their own interests.

Don, I have come to learn that business acumen is not something that Boonex posses.

I too am often flabbergasted at the way things are run here, but no amount of suggestions seem to make any difference.

The suggestion of a decent roadmap has already been made, as well as the suggestion to employ some decent project management skills in planning out the development process. (from which the roadmap can be published).

But alas, at best, my posts do not get deleted.

i'm sorry to say that for the most part you are wasting your breath.

It took me probably a year to figure out, but Boonex has almost purely a "developer's mentality".  If that is tempered with other professions - project management, product management, community management, customer managements, etc, that can be a great thing, but it is not tempered with other professions or viewpoints there.  That is why we have a product - D7 - with such awesome functionality, but missing some really basic functions that make it extremely difficult to work in the real world.

Quote · 9 Jul 2010

The "developer's mentality" was pretty obvious from the get-go - but I had hoped (apparently in vain) that such apparent technical brilliance (as was evidenced in the assembly of some fairly sophisticated code in the form of Dolphin in its various incarnations and iterations), might be matched by at least a modicum of business sense - but the more I look into the organizational structure and business philosophy of Boonex, the more I realize that they certainly don't know much about business, which is causing me to have second thoughts about the possible adaptation of Dolphin as a resellable and rebrandable niche-specific configurable social networking .platform.

With Ning scrapping their free social network hosting program and offering only paid hosting plans, I calculate that there are literally hundreds - and more realistically, probably thousands - of former owners of free Ning social networks now scrambling for alternatives. Dolphin's block-style page-builder has a quick enough learning curve for most Ning and WetPaint site owners to quickly migrate their Ning sites to their own self-hosted networks, with full functionality and only a one-off price instead of a monthly fee as Ning would continue to charge them.

I've been dabbling in Dolphin construction seriously for the last several weeks, even though I've been monitoring it for over a year. It has its mysteries, for sure - but once those mysteries are conquered, it's a fairly easy system to learn to administer, and also easy enough to teach relative "newbies" to administer as well (VITAL to the application I have in mind for Dolphin).

I'm planning on launching a small beta-test of my install of Dolphin Free this coming weekend with just a few test users - just to see if it will hold up under the abuse of "total apprentices." (Running Dolphin 7.0.2 without RMS - if it passes muster, I'll move the Community to a dedicated IP server with RMS enabled for live video chat and other RMS-required apps).

On another subject...

If anyone who has actually taken the time to read my ramblings finds them to contain a few grains of truth and (dare I even THINK it?)- wisdom(?) - concerning marketing, Dolphin, the price of tea in Beijing, or anything else contributory to a mutually-enjoyable and -beneficial discussion, please feel free to contact me via PM.

Or you can reach me via my internet talk radio show too...

In fact, if you're able to decipher or decode any or all of my above ramblings above into anything that makes any sense at all, please send me your translation so that I can understand it all too! I can't help thinking I might have said something really cool and profound, but I'll be darned if I can actually FIND it!

And of course you can always bait me into a heated and lengthy discussion by starting a new thread with an attack on the Free Market system...Tongue out I consider such debates to be great sport!

Thanks for letting an old gasbag like me vent a little!

And I do particularly appreciate your input, DeeEmm and Cal Trade! I'll let everyone know when I've assembled a decent Features and Benefits list of D7.x.x myself, and I'll probably post it here in OpenOffice/MSWord format so that it can be edited by each of you to fit your particular presentations or applications.

The free market system sucks!   Just kidding - that is insightful about the opportunity presented by the loss of free Ning.  Lets compare notes sometime.

I can only agree with what everyone here has said.  As a company we have been looking at various softwares to build our social online network.  The directors have requested I do a cross comparision of 3 of them, and whilst I really WANT to go with Dolphin, I can't  find ANY information ANYWHERE!!! Yell that allows me to cross reference its features, and ascertain whether its the way to go.

I really can't believe that Boonex expect us to part with money on the back of that Video promotion.  Whilst I love Dolphins and they looked great in the video, I can not find answers to my questions anywhere.    I find the whole Boonex site, unity and market, haphazered, and difficult to nativate, and the whole set up seems to be for IT geeks, not the general public in a sales and marketing department.  They are going to seriously get left behind, if you can;t find out what the product is, what it does, and how each feature works.

Further more, as a general lay person, more help in what involved in setting one up, and not just from an developers perspective.  Also an easier connection with companies that can do the whole package for you would be great.  In a customer end user, sales and marketing way, would be great.

The few I have spoken to have asked me to give them a full list of the features I want on my site, and what how I want it to function etc page by page......and round I come full circle to I DONT KNOW because I can't find whats on offer, what I can do, how I can use Facebook with it, does it integrate with Salesforce, how I can leverage my business with dolphin.....etc etc etc   There is no point what so ever in me buying a free licence, because I wouldn't know what to do with it, let alone get it on a server, and would the features be evident if I did manage that.   Its very off putting, very frustrating, and a huge wasted opportunity.   Come on Boonex, make us want you!  Thats all we are asking.  Make it clear why we can't live without you and the exact reasons why I want to buy your software rather than anyone elses.  We have 5 on line social networks we want to build for different groups in our business, but without any idea what Dolphin does in detail, for the computer illiterate people that make the financial and marketing decisions, its hard.   We make our decision in a the next 7 days.  Has anyone got any ideas for me?

I'll compile a feature list. In the meantime, you can ask me what you're looking for, and I'll tell you if Dolphin supports it, or if there's a third-party extension you can use.

Thanks Nathan, a features list would be great, at present I am having to go through each and every thread on this forum to try and find some answers, and its taking time and I am not sure I am getting anywhere.

Whilst I appreciate that this site seems to be for developers and people used to developing lingo, I wish it was geared a little more to people looking at the product from a sales and marketing persepctive.   with other software I have looked  at (ska date, Social go etc) there are full lists of features, exactly how they work to help your business, and clear guidlines on cost. With a complete design and configuration turn key service.  But as we know they are hosted solutions and so Dolphin keeps wanting my attention, and I want to give it.

But Its incredibly daunting for a sales and Marketing person like myself.  Not all social networks are set up by developing savy individuals, so in my humble opinion, it would be great if there was a lay persons guide to the steps I need to take. Or a telephone number somewhere that I could speak to somone trainned in sales for Dolphin, who could just ping me over a really helpful list, and guide me to someone that could take the whole project on, and leave me to my job of Sales and M.

In the first instance I am finding it hard to find out if I can use pre-existing templates from other 3rd parties, offered by the likes of Template monster, to give my site a unique design forward feel. Can I use a video on the first page where people can choose to watch it and then sign up.  And can you change more than the generic format, ie add pictures, and content etc, quotes and other cute design features, list of tags in funky fonts etc, have snazzy tabs etc rather than just the standard "Same" look site templates offered by Dolphin.    If so what template formats work with Dolphin, so I can go through the options at Template monster or similiar, by searching in the right format, that someone used to developing in Dolphin would be happy to work with......... All of these questions I am sure are childlike to those in the know, but I am struggling here.

Without going into more detail here, how do I find the best designer/developer, who will do all these modifications and design elements for me at a decent price.   Rather than trying to liase with a designer, another developer, and a different person for the code modification, a different person to do the presets and configuration,  etc etc.  I also need someone who can maintain the site and help train us for a further 6 months after launch, and ultimately hand it all over with on going support.   Is this dream dolphin Land, or is there a magic missing link hidden somewhere, that I in my ignourance have missed.

Is there a central sales number, email or advisor?

p.s Thankother than on basic issues. forums polls, video chat etc.I need to know the quality of the video chat,if you had 10k people using it, I need to know if all those things on the video are included or need to be bought, and if so who is the best person to buy them from, and the questions go on and on.   At the momment I am feeling like I need to employ someone to navigate the information on this site for me, and believe you me, if I knew who to pay to do this I would!!!

I need hand holding by someone who knows the whole Dolphin "trip" and all the add ons, and has a feel for what I am trying to create, can advise me on my design options, and tell me if what I want is possible or going to cost a fortune to get the feel I need.

If you give me a list of all the features you're looking for, I should be able to tell you if they're available by default or not (and if there's a third-party extension available). You can send me a message if you like.

Regarding your template question, you won't be able to go to Template Monster, download a template, and have it work in Dolphin. Dolphin's template system isn't that nice. You'd have to probably customize the default template to your liking and "mold" it into the design you want, or take the static template and covert it, which would take a while (trust me, I did it a few times).

You can also browse through the available templates in the market. There's some good designs out there, and you should be able to find developers who can create custom templates for you based on your designs.

You can upload or embed videos, and use HTML blocks to add those videos to most pages, including the home page and join form. There are some mods in the market that can allow you to add the join form to the home page (and there may be some tutorials in the forum to do it manually).

There's a few reputable developers out there. For templates, I'd recommend Gorpus, who's been around for a long time. You should be able find reputable developers by their reviews and profile recommendations.

Sorry if I didn't answer all your questions/got them horribly wrong. I kind of skimmed through your post. If you have any questions, let me know. I'm not a developer myself, though, so don't contact me about integrating anything. I may be able to point you in the right direction, though.
