CometChat Desktop Messenger

Im currently looking for a desktop Messenger since the demise of Yahoo messenger and ran across CometChat Desktop messenger which says it integrates with Dolphin.

Does anyone have any experience with this software ?

Or . . . . .

Do you recommend another desktop IM software that I can customize with my logo and use JUST for my own guests ?

I hate like hell to have to use Meebo or Trillian or one of those other services.

I think it is high time we had OUR OWN messenger.

 Hello John, i use CometChat and i have had no problems at all. They been very good to me every time i have had a question or an issue. You can YouTube them and see that they r pretty well known as well. Goodluck!

I contacted Comet chat , they were not very helpful so I decided to check around on them before I spent the money they are asking for the premium, I found MANY negative comments in forums about them and decided to check EVEN FURTHER by contacting a client they did business with , or so they claim, RACKSPACE , not only do they NOT USE the service as CometChat claims , but they have never even heard of them !!!

So Cometchat may be in a bit of a bind for illegally using their logo !

So I am still in need of a desktop messenger and willing to pay a fair price if it works well if someone can make a good recommendation.

Im checking now into FlashComs, they have a desktop messenger that looks pretty good.

Dan, the guy over there , I talked to in Skype and he is looking into a text only version of the desktop messenger for me as I am already using  Visichat for audio / Visual chatroom associated with our site.

Maybe this will work out , But I am still interested in maybe the one GeekGirl mentioned too if it suits our needs better than flashcoms and is more cost effective.

 Oh snap i guess so...umm do research before you purchase anything, won't be cool if after you pay then you wind up paying for something that is not what you thought it would be.

Comet Chat is legit.  It is member to member chat (similar to the built in one in Dolphin modules) and also allows members to set up chat rooms.  You can pay to have their logo removed.  It is also integrated into Dolphin,  members are automatically logged in.

 Hey John, one method that i use is, i simply visit their accounts on top social media sites just to see the layout, how many likes, etc... . You decide and maybe someone in here who knows a lot more can advise you, but i figured i'd post some links here to help you in your decision. Well just had a bad experience with FlashComs !

Got down to just about ready to pay and the guy tells me that my users have to click a link for adobe air before using the messenger . . . . . . . . . . . .EVERY SINGLE TIME THEY USE IT !!!!!!

NOT !!!!!!!!

That one is done ! PFFFFTTTTT !

WoW ! Unreal ! What does a person have to do to get a decent personalized IM ! LOL !!!!

Okay so looking into Openfire custom designed IM and maybe a cheap VPS to run it.

Other than Deans experience , everything I have found on them has been pretty negative !

Too bad one of the developers here couldnt get a mod specifically for Dolphin that is a seperate desktop messenger . . . . .I'd be happy to pay for that !

CometChat actually contacted me and asked me to give them a chance to prove themselves . . . . hmmmmmm okay . . . . . .thats a good gesture . . . . . .maybe I will consider them . . . . .Dean are you still currently using them at this time ?

Comet Chat is installed on a site that I manage as sys-admin.  Works well.  Users log on and they are automatically logged into the Comet Chat.  They can see when their friends/contacts are online.  Members can set if they are busy, away, etc.  If you buy a license, it allows for a year of free updates; after than you can renew at a lower rate.  Your current install is not affected; if you go with the unbranded license it stays unbranded even if you don't renew.  Very easy to install.  they have integrations for many platforms including Dolphin so no need to do anything, they have done it for you.  There is an admin panel where you can set options.

There are plugins as well that you set in admin.  You can set it as only by your members to other members but there are plugins for connecting to other services;

 Yes i am, i did purchase the package in which allowed me to use my own brand. They were and have always been cool with me. I have it currently on my 7.3.1, but i am debating now whether i should move it over to Trident. It's nice for what i need and it has cool features like video chat, voice chat etc...Again they have always been cool with me. Any other questions just ask and we will try to help you here.  

Well I am happy to say that I listened to you guys , talked it over with my staff and I bought the Comet chat.

It was simple to install , has been working flawlessly for 2 days straight and I am getting the desktop messenger created as we speak !

I wonder why people post bad reviews like I seen in all the different tech forums ??!!
