Collapsed view of replies and Comments

Is there a way to not have the comments and replies in things such as Profile Page comments and group comments (Guestbooks in effect) collapsed.

I would like to be able to have as a default setting that all comments and replies are displayed without constantly having to refresh them when moving round personal/group pages.

It may seem like a small thing, but when trying to administer a large and growing social networking site, it is important to be able to see at a glance if there are new comments/any comments or replies when moving around the site.  

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can we have help on this.....maybe you already took care of it, in which case can you tell us how to do it?

Seems that either no one is willing to tackle this or don't know either.  I spent a day going through the comment php scripts, the javascript code, etc. and I could not achieve an answer; I admit that my skills levels are not all that great.  If the comments are hidden, it should be possible to just not hide them in the first place and remove the "expand all" button that does not expand all the replies, just the top level ones.

Andrew, Dolphin is your baby, could you take the time to ask the developers how to remove this feature; the feature where replies are collapsed?  Please.  Pretty please with sugar on top.
