Can you customize and move around menu sections?

Hi,

Is it possible to customize and move around the dolphin menus or menu sections?

1. Can I change the names of menu such as change 'people' to 'friends' or 'music' to 'audio' etc?

2. Can I move 'videos' before 'people' i.e. right after the 'account' menu at the top left? Can I move any menu where I want or they are fixed and can not be moved?

3. Can I move 'videos' section to the top instead of 'members' section in the body of the home page? Can I move any section anywhere I want in the body of the home page?

PS: You can see what I mean using dolphin version 7 here: http://www.demozzz.com/dolphin7a/

Please advise. Thank you very much for your help.

Regards,

RK

I checked those sites and can't find the answers I requested.

I just wanted to know if these customizations are possible, not how to do them or any thing.

Thank you.

rkumar - you can do all those things and more.  Did you look at the menu builder in the admin panel yet?  Zeusworks gave you some excellent references- the answers should be there.

This shows how to work with the menu builder

http://www.boonexnerd.net/dolphin/blogs/entry/Quick-Tour-of-the-Menu-Builder-Admin

I found it using the search.

Quick Tour of the Menu Builder

There are two main areas to the Menu Builder. They are:

  1. Active Items - Whatever block appears in this area is active or visible on the site. Each block in turn has a visibility property unique to itself.
  2. All Items - Whatever block appears in this area is not active on the site.

Add a New Menu Tab

  1. Login as admin and go to Builders > Navigation Menu Builder
  2. In the All Items area locate the NEW ITEM block. It looks like this:

  3. Click and drag the NEW ITEM block to where you want it to show up in the menu by dragging it over to the Active Items area.

  4. Once it sticks, click on the block label NEW ITEM and a pop-up menu will appear. You will see the following:
    • a) System Name - This is the internal name that Dolphin will use to refer to the selected block. It is the label that appears in the Menu Builder.
    • b) Language Key - This relates to the language and translation for the block. Notice the _ underscore.
    • c) Default Name - This is what shows up on the site. Whatever you enter in this text field is what the block will show.
    • d) URL - This is the link to the page when the block is clicked. For the top level or first menu tab, you can also place links. For example, the Videos tab has the following:
      URL: browseVideo.php|viewVideo.php

Here's an example:

  • a) System Name - My Menu
  • b) Language Key - _MyMenu
  • c) Default Name - My Menu
  • d) URL - mymenu.php
  • e) Target Window - Click the Same radio button
  • f) Visible for - Click both the Guest and Member checkboxes.

zeusworx et al,

You are very kind to have done what you did. It's comforting to see.

Thank you. I have checked the Admin Panel and even added a new page to the menu but this enlightened me more to other things. I would prefer that page be a main menu item and you helped me with your step-by-step instructions.

Regards,

Jhazzi

PS Also thanks for the reference sites. I had Boonexnerd.net but not the others.

I've been trying to add  a menu button myself and I've seen other posts on here with people experiencing the same issue I am having. The New Item menu button won't "stick" when it is dragged to the active block. Why is this and how do I get this to work?

That sounds really easy and straight foward, but I have some sort of issues because when I change the default name it loads upon clicking save and then i close via the top right x icon only to find that it is not editing as a save? it's back to the old name? is it file permissions or something else? running dolphimn 7.04

Thanks Dane....

You'll have to change the name in the language keys.
