Can't turn cache back on--

OK I had an issue with my site a couple of days ago. I contacted my web host and they said there was an error in the .htacces file. Anyway, I guess they fixed the error but they also turned off all cache.

Now when I go into advanced settings to turn it back on and to switch my template back to my original, there is no more clickable arrow.

All I need to know is how can I turn cache back on - either by finding out it's actual page address so that I can type it manually into the address bar, or by changing code from false to true or something like that. By the way the rep I'm working with refuses to listen to my plea and says it's a coding issue. Please help, I'm sure it's an easy fix, thanks.

Most probably you have some JavaScript error on the page, this is the reason that expand/collapse control is not shown.

Try to check error log in your browser to find out the exact error string.

Hi Alex, the error logs @ cpanel say...

  • [Sat Jan 12 21:02:25 2013] [crit] [client 166.135.249.122] (13)Permission denied: /home/socialea/public_html/inc/.htaccess pcfg_openfile: unable to check htaccess file, ensure it is readable, referer: http://www.socialeaf.com/administration/
  • and...
  • [Sat Jan 12 21:02:24 2013] [crit] [client 98.242.43.149] (13)Permission denied: /home/socialea/public_html/inc/.htaccess pcfg_openfile: unable to check htaccess file, ensure it is readable, referer: http://www.socialeaf.com/administration/advanced_settings.php

The error log in FTP says...

  • [12-Jan-2013 21:05:25] PHP Fatal error:  require_once() [<a href='function.require'>function.require</a>]: Failed opening required '/home/socialea/public_html/templates/tmpl_skin004/scripts/BxTemplJoinPageView.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/socialea/public_html/inc/utils.inc.php on line 956

I wonder if upgrading to dolphin 7.1 would correct the issue. I have been contemplating it but I'm not sure if the problems would simply be carried over.

Two of them are permission problems. And the error itself tells you what to actually do which i highlighted. two .htaccess files cannot be read. Make sure they are readable.

The other is a problem with template tmpl_skin004 I also highlighted that in case you missed it when reading the error.

No. Upgrading will most likely not fix permission problems.

The template problem would be fixed by the upgrade because the template will not be compatible with 7.1 so you would have to dump it anyway.

Having permission problems on .htaccess files is very abnormal. Someone has messed with the permissions of files on your site. Or you restored a backup that damaged permissions, or your host did.

I don't know, I think the errors in the logs aren't related to the javascript error. But anyhow, the host rep left the old .htaccess file. I think I will switch the two to see if that corrects the two errors. As for the template issue, I hate that template, I should have removed it because it isn't compatible, but every time I ask my host for help, they switch back to that template. Very strange. Anyway, to Alex, where should I look for javascript errors? I think I'm looking in the wrong place. sorry for being so Noob.

Hey guys I found these errors on the Admin settings page. Looks like I have some terrible issues with javascript. Any idea how to fix these please?

Wow I fixed my own site! I guess that extra coffee I had did the trick! Thanks for the help. If anyone runs into this problem PM me for the answer.

Hi There.

I have the same issue!  Turned off all cache as instructed while I create a new template.  Template looks great until I turn the cache back on and then I basically lose my entire template.  Do you have the secret fix?  I am tearing my hair out here.

Thanks So Much!!
