I've been trying to figure out the page builder and I think something is wrong. When I start a new page, I can't get either of the sample blocks to "stick" in the active blocks area of the page builder. When I drag "_HTML Block" or "_RSS Block" to the area nothing happens, no matter how much I "wriggle". What am I doing wrong? Or is something wrong with my db or install (just upgrade to 6.1.2 but this issue was there before). A few hints: 1. When I let the block go in the active area- I sometimes get an "alert" pop-up box- but the text is blank- it doesn't say anything. 2. I don't like those underscores in front of the sample block names- does everyone have that? 3. When I click on one of the sample blocks, I get a message in red that says "This block has no properties" - I don't know if this is normal behavior or not. Maybe I am just missions something obvious- or maybe not. Could someone help me track this one down.
Thanks

Hi Dude!
I have the same problem.
For some reason no one on this site helps.

Well at least we are not alone. Does anyone at least have any theories we can test? It is a pretty serious issue, and I am stumped.

I have a toot on my blog posted many moons ago on how to do this.
http://www.boonex.com/unity/blog/entry/Add_new_page_in_6_1
I also have the force html ... javascript into the DB if you dont know that....
Please Please watch them all and if you still have questions request toots....Dolphin issues not how to complete tasks on your own site lol
Please leave comments and suggestions...hit it with a thumb if you watch it
I have video tutorials to help you mrpowless.com |
Mrpowless - aka Darren- thanks- you nailed it. I was totally convinced I had a bad install, but apparently this situation is very common- in fact, maybe everyone has it. Am I the only one who didn't know about this? There is nothing intuitive in your "brute force" solution so everyone will have to do this sooner or later. I'm surprised that Boonex would let the new release go without fixing this- and it seems easy to fix- just put the first blocks in there for us. As it stands, having to edit an backup file, and then doing an insert into phpmyadmin is a few hoops to jump through. I mean, why have a new page builder at all, if it doesn't work for new pages?

Another note....
I had the same problem but I found mrpowless blog on how to force it....
It was ok the page/blocks would show but I wasnt able to edit/save anything in them. I dont know why but I opened firefox, logged in as admin and went to play with the blocks on new page....
Everything went in, and looked as I wanted it.
The same thing with members activity mode from scriptologist. IE would show the mod installed, but no editing would be saved unless I edited it in firefox.
I hope this helps, let me know.

I was able to get the HTML blocks to stick in the new page, and I was able to add content to them as well. They show up in the DB, conetnt and all, but when I go to view the new page, the blocks are not there. Its as if I never added them. Yet they show up in the page builder. Someone got a clue as to why that is and what I should do?

Hi,
I found that all I had to do was keep adding columns and eventually one of the blocks would stick inside one of the columns. Then I deleted all the other unused columns until I was left with just one. Dont ask me why that works but it did. Very annoying fault.
Cheers

Good discovery Avhow - I'll give it a whirl. It would be kind to call this a "bug" - and this is more than just "annoying" - it just doesn't work at all.
