Can anyone recommend a good dedicated server

Hi all,

I'm looking for a good, fast dedicated server to host four dolphin sites. RMS a must. Does anyone have any suggestions, tips or recommendations?

Thankyou all in advance

Not sure what your budget is, but for starting off your Dedicated server, I recommend the special ServerBeach.com has right now on their Core 2 Quad Q9400.

http://www.serverbeach.com/servers/specialoffers_quad_core_dedicated_servers.php

It is $99 / Month right now, but you will have add-ons I'm sure you might want.

If you do decide to go with them, let me know so I can get some referral goodies! Thanks!

It is who I use and they have been great!  I did use the server I am recommending for around 6 month with several Dolphin websites installed on it and it worked just fine then!

We like Softlayer.  We spend about 10K a month with them.  While cheaper is available, they are just simply great on many levels.

BoonEx recently moved to Softlayer also.  I'd like to say, we had some influence on that decision by BoonEx.  ;)

They have some good specials, like the TRIPLE and PLUS specials.... you can also get additional discounts if you call sales and ask for them.

Get RAID'ed hard drives... if you care about uptime and your data.  Also, consider a 3rd drive or off server backups.  We use R1Soft running on our backup servers.

Pay attention to how the server is partitioned (hard drives), the default partitions are not usually ideal.

As for Ray (RMS), run it on your own server under it's own user (not root) for higher security.

Consider LiteSpeed for your web server - nice fast product and good support.

Run CSF/LFD.

Of course, run Linux (not WinDoze).

Enjoy.

Ha.... we actually don't talk much... I think the recent email exchange we had about hosting was the first time we have talked in 2 or 3 years.

I think the last time we spoke (by email) was 2 or 3 years ago... so it is nice to have opened communication again.

Anyways, I wish them well with their new hosting... that is what matters most.

Also, good luck to Dangrac in his dedicated server search!

Hi all,

Just to say thanks for your posts and taking the time to offer your suggestions. Very much appreciated. I've opted to go with TMD as they seem very on the ball as far as Dolphin requirments go. I'll wait and see if it was the right decision.

Thanks again and I hope you're all enjoying the footie.

Best Regards

Jay

On the footie subject what the hell happened with England on Friday? I worked a twelve hour shift through Thursday night and stayed awake to watch it. I could've had a few hours kip in the afternoon, but once I'm out I'm out. I was hoping my will power would rub off on them and pull a win out of the hat, but alas.

10K a month? Is that for a single site? What is it?

5K or so is for a 5.6.5 we manage with 750K members or so.... sorry, can't give out the URL.

The rest is for other client servers we manage, and our own servers (web , RMS, CDP (Continuous Data Protection) servers).
