Can FB sue?

Just found this on Wikipedia about Facebook :

"On February 23, 2010, Facebook was granted a patent on certain aspects of its News Feed. The patent covers News Feeds in which links are provided so that one user can participate in the same activity of another user. The patent may encourage Facebook to pursue action against websites that violate its patent, which may potentially include websites such as Twitter."

How does this affect Dolphin site-owners? US owners especially, coz this would never stand in Europe, for example.

The patents lol ... the 'Dynamic Page generator' gets me!

As someone commented "PHP has been allowing web developers to dynamically generate web pages since 1995, two years prior to Yahoo filing it's patent."

If you're using one of those Facebook-a-like templates and, or have "book" in your name, this news shouldn't be your first concern.

The US Patent and Copyright Office has been idiotic for years.  They don't understand IT at all and grant these patents when they should not.  There have been attempts to try and "reform" the patent office concerning software but I guess it has not gone very far.

Even if the FB patents hold up after re-examinations and challenges, FB has bigger things to worry about than Dolphin sites.  On the FB radar screen, Yahoo or Google would be a flying barn..... your Dolphin site wouldn't even amount to a fly in that barn.... it'd be more like a fly turd.

Rest easy and let the big boys duke it out.  No one is going to sue you.

My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees.

I was about to mention that myself.

We are no where near big enough for them to even waste their time on. So not something i am going to worry about.

Same patent office that allowed Marconi to take credit for inventing the radio for like 40 years with patents that were use that belonged to Telsa?

what could they sue for , my 110 year old home or my 10 year old ford taurus? I dont think they'd be interested. lol

1. They won't sue until it's cost-effective for them (you're talking about billion-dollar target only).

2. Patents are always for "method" or "implementation" rather than idea. So, I wouldn't worry about any of the default Dolphin functionality - it's all based on original developments.

3. Very-facebook-like designs have always been a potential target, but then, look up #1 first, or otherwise look at the sites like vk.com for an example of successful rip-offs that never bothered to care.

Actually, Yahoo! is going after Facebook over patents infringements.

Yeah and it's ridiculous ... many of the things are basically 'patents of features' and there are examples of these features that was out long before Yahoo or Facebook adopted them.

I can't help but feel this was always Yahoo's intention to trap and sue Facebook in this way ... great timing to spring this now as Facebook is now worth Billions and Yahoo is in my opinion dying now compared to their past.
