Browse Profile Edit Fields

I got the profile types splitter so now I can create different profiles but this has now created a problem. When some one goes to that area it only shows one type because the search fields that are there are only set up for that profile type. How do I edit the browse profile fields so that I can get more profiles in there. I found the code but it is variables so I am not sure on what changes and don't want to mess things up.
