Boonex forum down again

How many hours was the forum down this time?  I know at least 30 maybe.  40?  Anyone time it?

BoonEx.com never went down, but I haven't checked the forums in the last two hours.

It was down from last night, so maybe around 12 hours.

It wasn't actually down but nobody can post anything. It was buggy.

so much to do....

Ah, thanks for the clarification. There's a big difference between "down" and "can't post".

The site was not down at all. So it was not like last time. So yea. There is a big difference.

You just could not post to the forums. Everything thing else seemed to work. I was passing messages back and forth to someone all day long.

I did not try to post to the forums until i noticed the last post said it was posted 2 days ago. So it could have been broken for up to 48 hours or more. But i am not sure of the exact time it happened.

These guys are not watching their own website closely enough.

I think it was more along the 20 hour mark..

I sent Andrew a Skype yesterday, so they really are not watching the site.

Michael Newton: Hey, are you guys aware that Boonex has been messed up for about 20 hours now? No one can post..

[Thursday, December 26, 2013 11:45 PM]

Andrew Boon: Hi, Michael! Please, let me know where exactly the problem is? Can not post where?

Yes, not down but no posting.

I was able to message friends, that was all.

This is where the mishap happened..

I assumed everyone took the day off for the holidays. Didn't see anything new, so didn't bother trying to post.

I tried to post last night. I couldn't. It stated that I need to be Advanced or not logged in. I am Premium and logged in. I have confute that "Advanced" needs to be replaced to "Staff" or something.

How come there's no special sale from Boonex? Not even "Happy Holidays" from Boonex this year? Rude!

That's the generic Orca message. If there's an error in Orca, that's the message shown.

What I'm guessing happened is the session from BoonEx.com didn't carry over to Orca, or immediately expired.

That's the one I was trying to post last night. I tried other posts by hitting Reply and I get the same message.

Off the subject, here's an example, geek_girl and newton27 are "Advanced", does this mean they have access?

Why are there two different types of "Advanced" is beyond stupid and still create confusion to new users.

No, that means our accounts are actually below your level, our accounts are "Basic" your "Advanced" as it should be listed as this causes confusion.

There used to be the free account, that was where the basic title was used, that was dropped like a hot rock as the site got spammed severely.

It might has well been down.  A lot of bad karma was created by that Access Denied message

You're thinking of Starter, which is still a membership, but not with forum post access. Indeed, it made a spammy mess of the place, and was actually the reason why I can now ban IP addresses. By my math, one IP ban was good for about 12 hours before I needed to ban another one. And if I took the day off, well, have fun.

Starter gets its forum privileges back every now and then, but it always ends in a fiery death of spam.

i did not realize that you could not post, but i did notice that the My Topics and Subscription links were not showing up. I was looking to see if martinboi had ever responded to my post in his support thread for the Membership Manager Pro, and had to go the long way to find my post.

That Access Denied had people thinking they were locked out by Boonex on purpose.  Perhaps for the future something else could be in place.  I got several PMs asking me about this and they all thought they had been locked out of their accounts for forum posting by Boonex,  As I said, I am sure a lot of bad karma was generated for Boonex.

The problem was that login information was missing in forum, so all user were logged out in forum. So actually error message was correct - "... or you are not logged in"

Alex, you are missing the point.  The message needs to be changed.  That message also appears when a forum is locked to certain members posting.  At some point, it would be nice if Boonex made some changes.  If a forum is closed to me, then make a check for that and say "You don't have permissions to post in this topic"  Not, "You must be advance..." when the person is advance.  Make some checks and post an appropriate message.  In this case if the person was not logged into the forum due to the login error, say so.  "It appears that you are not logged into the forum"

I repeat, I got many messages from people that were UPSET because they felt that Boonex had blocked them from the forum.  "You Must Be Advance... ."  So if the person was advance and was told they could not post, the conclusion was that Boonex had smacked them for some reason.  Bad Karma as a result.

"... or you are not logged in."

Authentication wasn't being passed to Orca (as I figured above). Case closed. So if someone knows:

  1. They're Advanced or Premium
  2. They're logged in (or should be)

This should be easily chalked-up to a site error.

---

You are correct that Orca needs to drop the generic error message and incorporate messages for different events - Access, Authentication, Misc., etc. For example, a hidden thread should include a message like:

This thread has been hidden and is no longer available.

Or for the moderator forum, it should read something like this:

You must be a member of <Group> to view this forum.
