Boonex: Please Fix This Site!

I am tired of appearing in other members "Connections" list without my approval.  It seems as though anyone at all can add me to their connections, and that is all that that is required.  There I am... publicly perceived as somehow associated with someone that I am not.  It seems as though I have no choice in the matter.  I request that this be corrected asap.  Start by running soome sql query that removes me from any and all "connections" list that I appear in.  From this point forward, I'd like to have some say as to what other members are "connected" with me.

Some of these other members whose connections list I appear in, strike me as individuals that chewed through their restraints and came here, so please don't take my request lightly.

How did you know that is what I did? LOL

I have to agree with HL that the connections thing is either not functioning as it should or is confusing.  I will see a noticed where so and so has added me as a friend.  So did they add me as a friend but if I don't accept the connection then I am their friend but they are not my friend?  Or do you mean they are requesting me as a friend and I am not really their friend until I accept the connection?  Or Boonex do you even know yourself?

This has always driven me nuts too. If someone sends me a "connection" request and I delete it I shouldn't show up on their list but I do... and HL is correct, there are a lot of errrr unique people here I would prefer to not be "connected" with.

Yes, this is a weird one. Guys will check shortly.

Meanwhile, it brings up the question of "Connections" being a right kind of thing for BoonEx.com in the first place. I think we should just go for "Subscribtions", one way, for tracking someone's new products, updates, posts, etc. Agree?

Agreed. I actually believe when a member purchases a product., they should be automatically subscribed to the products support forum so they will be sent such update announcements.

That's true. But at least they will be notified when a new posts occurs. I post update announcements in my support forums. Many of the developers do. The ones that provide support that is. Perhaps it will get them to at least look.

Then some genius moved it, because that's where I originally posted it.

There used to be a forum for boonex.com issues, but that seems to have disappeared.  I chose the dispute forum because it is the only gripe related forum there is.  I really don't care who comments, as long as the comments are on topic.  Newt just pissed me off, as he frequently does.  To bad this site doesn't have a block feature... I'd sure use it.

Perhaps the local neighborhood nutjob listing you as a connection is a non-issue to you.... I however take exception to it.  I just wonder..... what would Mydatery think?

I always looked at the connections as something stupid as a whole. I have had to spend countless minutes explaining to my client what that means. And it is actually simple, but the wrong term is being used, I think.

Connection would be contact you have between you and another member, whether it is good or bad. Friends list (obviously good), those who you blocked (obviously bad). As well as a small bit of filtering such as faves.

So it just seems that Connections is there to have one place to show all of these in one place. But besides all of that, I do not really understand the deal with being added to another persons connections since you have to accept it anyways.

Well that's the major flaw here. You do not have to accept it to get added to their connection list. That's what HL is complaining about. It's stupid. You can't reject it. Sure, you can ignore it on your end and the connection will not be added to your list, but it still appears on the list of the one who added you. So it's a problem that needs to be fixed.

Maybe this thread prompted them to fix it because up until this it was exactly like HL said... everyone who sent you a connections request had you on their list regardless of it you accepted, ignored or deleted it.

Yes, yes, it's not fixed and it's flawed. We've discussed the issue and instead of fixing the symmetry we decided to change "connections" to "subscriptions" completely.

All "Connections" will be reset, and we'll notify members about the change. Subscriptions will be one-way and will work for Products, Notes and Profiles. Notifications about updates will be sent whenever a new Product or Note is posted by Vendor and whenever a Product or Note is updated. Thus, vendors would also be able to more effectively use Notes for their announcements and mass-communication with interested subscribers.

This change should go online sometime next week.

Sorry about the confusion and thank you for bringing up the issue that obviously needed attention.

I think the bigger issue is why they never dog fooded it..   I though they were going to do this site in 7.0 and then 7.1.   If they had been using the same system we try to use all along things would be very different here.

Next thing your going to tell us is we will loose our internal messages.

For me, my connections show how much commitment I make here, and my devotion to Dolphin, and the free support site I provide.

Boonex does not allow free memberships as we are glad here because of the spam, but my support site is free and allows more input because I have better spammer controls set.

I value my "friends."

Let's avoid any major shift that could take up more time and effort then it's worth.  Just keep the Connections feature but fix it and improve it ASAP, i.e. fix it so Connections will NOT be added unless both parties approve it, and improve it so there will be an option for either party to "break" an established Connection.  The later can be used immediately by anyone wishing to clean up their current Connections.

BTW, I'm fairly sure I sent a request to Boonex over a year ago requesting an option be added that will allow site members the option to remove themselves from another member's Connections list... so a big "thank you" to everyone that contributed to finally getting Boonex to do something.
