When in doubt always use binary.

The auto setting is not always accurate and relies on a list of extensions that are programmed into the ftp client.

And transferring binary files such as the flash files in ASCII will ruin them, so stick with binary.

I always use Binary as its the best option as you dont know if any files require uploading in Binary to work, so always best to use Binary

What do you do when you backup onto  your own hard drive - still follow binary format?
