Befriend is confusing

I must admit that I don't like the way Befriend works..

After you click on Befriend link in the user's profile page the link should change from "Befriend" to something like "Befriend sent" or "Pending" or the link be just grayed (disabled) until the other user accepts or rejects the befriend invitation..

It's pretty hard for users to remember who "befriended" before.. and that "This user already in your friend list!" message when you click again is very confusing, because if you look right then in your friend list you won't see the user you just "befriended".. because obviously the other user did not yet accepted your invitation..

edit: we should also have a "accept befriend" link on the profile page of users who sent befriend invitation to us (not yet accepted or rejected by us)..

Good point - and I don't really like that word "befriend" - I hope we can change it to "contact" or something.  I have also never been completely clear on how this is different from a "fave" - another word I really don't like.

Well you can change the name yourself in the php files and its not that big of a deal, I did. But the idea behind having it say something else after it has been clicked wouldn't be bad.

I agree befriend function is still too basic. I use both FB and Myspace a little so I can tell that Dophil can do better around Befriend.

However, I think that Dolphin 6 would gives you a message if you previously sent a request and the person has not responded. To me the word befriend is more meaning full than contact.

To change befriend title you just need to go into manage language and change this variable _Befriend (System)

Remember, everything in Dolphin in regards to text is controlled by the language file.

Edit: if you don't like befriend, just change it to Friend Request so users will understand better what the function does.
