Banning a user - where to adjust?

I've never used banning button in the admin / members. From what I've read here, it does prevent banned member from logging in. Does it mean that on the surface, the profile still looks the same to other members (= the banned profile can be viewed and so on?)? Also, I've read the ban is removed by a cron, typically - according to the forums - in less than 24 hours. I'd like to adjust this period, but I have no clue where to look and/or what to look for.

Well, after finding the correct search keywords I've found this (although I found the code in cron first then thought about searching clear ban table, lol) - http://www.boonex.com/forums/topic/Why-Baning-members-doesn-t-hold-more-than-24-hours-.htm - just to have more than one option though, where is the setting that actually defines time interval for this cron code?
