Banner Impressions Inaccurate

How is the banner impressions total calculated? Here are my test step-by-steps using a unmoded Dolphin 7.1 version:

Step 1: Create new banner with  <img src="banner.jpg"> as 'Text' entry

Step 2: Select only 'Top' display option

Step 3: Go to another browser and refresh home page to view new banner

Step 4: Click on banner.jpg

Step 5: Switch back to Banner admin screen immediately and refresh

Step 6: Observe the number of 'Clicks' = 1 and number of 'Impressions' = 41

If our pricing model to banner buying customers has a dependency on the number of impressions (for example $X for every Y impressions), I don't think the Dolphin Banner impressions are believable.  We understand that there are several variables that can inflate the number of impressions a little bit but as is, we just don't think we can validate the number of impressions to our potential customers.

Has someone reviewed and corrected this?

RISK:  If the ratio of banner views are artifically inflated (not on purpose but because of calculation error)  compared to total clicks, the banner content looks ineffective.

It becomes harder to re-sell a banner spot if it appears for example:  there is only 1 banner click for about every 10k impressions when it should be more like 1 banner click for about every 1k impressions.  Yes, we realize bots will trigger the Select pull and inflate the number some but it appears the +1 count from the Select call to the Banner table is getting called multiple times per single page display.

Has anyone integrated a different analytics tool for 7.1 to track site visits overall, especially tracking click-throughs on external links and/or banners?

I use my own OpenX setup for banner delivery and statistics.

I can't reproduce this problem, maybe something was fixed in the code regarding this.

I would suggest to check it again in 7.1.1.

I last saw the banner count is full mess up in 7.0.9 , haven't tried in 7.1 but i don't think you should depend on dolphin counts to sell banners. Use something like openx or custom coded stuff.

so much to do....
