Are there any advantages to haveing spam bots sign up?

So, like everyone else, spam bots have been going through my site at a fair pace and I have kept some up but removing the links they leave in their profile. Deleting them after they pile up and going through the whole process again.

I felt that it might be helpful for my site but honestly I have no clue and would like to hear some input on this.... I have read how to slow it down as well but not sure what I want to do about them yet.

did you make your join for a two step process too?

[edit] there is not advantage unless you want a site filled up with useless blogs.. lol

No, I haven't made the steps to prevent them yet. So far, only a few have gotten aggressive or posted about specifics of Viagra. Those I deleted right away.... If you mean two step process, like having to confirm their email, then yes, they don't usually confirm so they don't get far.

No advantage.. actually a huge disadvantage because the search engines are going to think your site is about whatever spammy words they are posting... which isn't going to help your ranking any.

Thank you, mscott.

But lets play devil's advocate. I'm trying to get my site to be like facebook where there are no limits in the people, groups or topics. And my niche is third party advertising where I need a broad spectrum and without the audience then there is no one to advertise to. (I do realize that spam bots do not click ads.)

Is it still a harmful choice to keep them on for a bit?
