Another case where free does not really mean free

I am in the process of trying to transfer a domain name that was "free" as part of the hosting package; you know the spiel, host with us and get a free domain name.  This is with Arvixe.  They are telling me that I don't own the domain name; that I need to pay for it.  I set up a website for someone and they have decided to go with HostGator and manage the website themselves instead of me.  I have told Arvixe that I will pay for the domain but they are dragging their feet.  In this case I would have been better to not apply the "free" domain name and just purchased it outright.  Be careful because free does not always mean free.  Arvixe holds all the aces because I can not get an authorisation key to transfer the domain.  If they don't go ahead and sell me the domain then I will try other avenues, perhaps contacting ICANN.  Oh, Boonex, it is way past time that you remove Arvixe as a recommended host for Dolphin.  If they don't screw you one way they will screw you another.

If you read the terms, almost always, that "free" domain is only free for the life of the service.  If you transfer out, it costs at least one renewal fee.  As for their reluctance to invoice the domain, that's another issue.  Is mscott still a liaison?

They finally sent an invoice.  Seriously, people need to think about this "free" domain and pass on it; buy your domain so that you own it; otherwise, you may find yourself in a spot if you want to move hosts.  Domains are not that expensive now so to protect  your interest, buy the domain so that you do own it.  Well, you never really own a domain, but you have the control over it.

PR man - someone employed to arrange publicity (for a firm or a public figure).

Liaison - An instance or a means of communication between different groups.

I've never done any PR for Arvixe. What I do is contact people at Arvixe and try to get things fixed. Nathan and Newton are always kind enough to point people to me but for some reason no one contacts me?
