Animated Avatars (.gif)

Is there a way to get animated gif's to work for avatars?  Searched on this but didn't find an answer.

I uploaded one to the folder where they reside and it shows in the selection group and even shows it animating, but when I select it, I get an Error where My Avatars show.

Maybe this can be added for future release?

I had the same issue as you described. When it gets uploaded during registration it shows the image but no animation.

Even though you can upload png, and gif, they are converted to jpg.  That's why the animation disappears.  Animated avatars are extremely annoying anyways.

Copying them to the directory manually does not convert them.

They show up (and show their animation working) in the avatar choices, but when one is selected that is when you get an Error in the My Avatars section.

Seems like it could be just a simple, allow this file type kind of thing, but I'm not a coder here, so I really don't know.

I do agree with your opinion on animated avatars personally, houstonlively, but if I only put what I like on my site, I won't have anything to market, lol.

Many people, especially children, do like animated avatars.  I think it would be a nice addition to have the option to offer some to members of family and children oriented sites.

Yes, I know.   I don't know why the chose to only support the jpeg format.  Since  all uploaded formats are converted to jpg, they must have had a reason.

I know you can resize animated gifs with Imagemagic, so that's n ot the problem.

convert sourcefile -coalesce -resize XXxYY -deconstruct destinationfile

Someone, AlexT i think mentioned they were all converted to jpgs. I am betting to make things compatable with that cool iris thingy. I am not sure why this was done, but i also don't like it.
