Alternative Forum For Dolphin

I would like to use a different forum with my Dolphin installation. It has to be integrated. Has anyone yet integrated another forum with 6.1? Would love to hear from you. Thanks!

mscott- cool!  You got the phpBB 3 integration done!  Will this be the official version?   I need to look at my meagre finances before I buy, but first I have a few questions:

1.  I'm confused by the wording on your description- will this work with the free- i.e. ad version of Dolphin?

2.  I've installed Dolphin in mysite/community, but I have installed phpBB in mysite/forums.  I've heard with the old version of this mod that it would have to be installed in the forums directory of Dolphin.  Can it be made to work if it is in a different directory?

3.  For the $60, will you do the install?

Really happy to learn that someone has been working on this.  I think that integrating Dolphin and phpBB will open up all sorts of other capabilities, as their are many mods on the phpBB side.

One more question.  Suppose you have a number of members in Dolphin, and then add this mod.  Will the members who were already in Dolphin have phpBB accounts?  or do they only get registered with phpBB when they register with Dolphin?

bzzrd2: The links work for me? If you are still having trouble you can get it at my site also:

www.makeasocialnetwork.com

Rob: To answer your questions, yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes.. haha. Now I'll break it down:

1. What I have up for sale right now are the zip files just like you would get them if you downloaded them from here... the only difference is when you isntall Dolphin as if by magic phpBB3 is there too (and integrated) :-) So if you get my ad-free zip it is the WHOLE ad-free Dolphin with phpBB3 built in. The free one is the WHOLE Free version of Dolphin with phpBB3 built in. Does that make more sense? I guess they aren't really "mods", more like a FULL version of Dolphin with phpBB3 built in.

2. I put the phpBB3 in the forums directory out of habit.. but since I wrote all this code from scratch we could put it anywhere really.

3. Yes, I will either install my whole version I'm selling or I can integrate currently installed sites for $60.

4. I have writen a seperate script that moves all the Dolphin members over to phpBB3.. so not only do new members signing up get entered into both, but all the old ones will be there too.

I did the conversion last night on makeasocialnetwork.com and everything turned out great.. I actually deleted the phpBB2, and integrated the phpBB3. When you join my site there now you join:

1. The main site (Dolphin)

2. A phpizabi site

3. An Elgg site

4. The phpbb3

5. Flashchat

Haha it has really turned into a Frankensteins monster, I'm thinking of throwing OSDate on there later tonight :-)

Weird, I can't connect to the expertzzz.com server at all. Almost like my ISP has it blocked???? Anyway, mscott your mod looks great. Guess I have to wait a bit though as 60 bones is a bit rich for me right now. :( Nice job though!

Mscott - will talk to you about your program shortly- need to smash open my piggy bank and see if there is $60 in there.

Curious though- the other technologies you mentioned- especially the social networks - phpizabi and Elegg - what functionality are you getting from them that you don't get from Dolphin- or that you like better than that which is in Dolphin?

The short answer is "none", haha. The purpose of my site is to show people what is out there in the social networking business.

Anyone who asks me I still tell them I prefer Dolphin... my site just gives current and potential webmasters a chance to sign up one time and see what the member side of those platforms looks like. None of them have video/music capabilities out of the box, so no contest in my opinion :-)

mscott

I downloaded your PHPBB mod and all went well. I just have to go to your site and find what usename to use to set the forum up. Question: Is there a way that I can allow visitors to view the forum? When  the link is clicked my anyone not signed in Dolphin wants them to join or sign in prior to viewing the forum. Thanks! looks good so far...Buzz

Thanks! To let non-members view the forum just open www.yoursite.com/forum.php and change this line:

 if ( !( $logged['member'] = member_auth( 0, true ) ) )

to this:

 if ( !( $logged['member'] = member_auth( 0, false ) ) )

it should be line 33  :-)

About the username, it is the name and password you entered during the install for the Dolphin admin info.

thanks again

Mike
