All roads lead to the 404 profile!

Go to my site. It's slow to load. Click on any menu item and it takes you to member #404's profile page! I have checked all settings, even replaced the htaccess file and I don't know why! This just started out of the blue.....

I have 3 other Dolphin sites on this server and none of them are experiencing any issues so I don't believe it's a server configuration error. The problem site was just updated to 7.05 a week or so ago but all was working well until today....

Try it for yourself. Go to townation.com

The site is totally unusable like this!

Try to replace your current .htaccess file with file from repository!

PS: If possible do not write me personally, please try to ask on the forum first
Quote · 21 Feb 2011

I replaced the htaccess file already with the one from the 7.05 download (repository?). It made no difference.

I had similar issue skyforum - in my couse it was realy htaccess issue. Are you 100% sure your htaccess is okay ? ALso make sure thete is not php ini file in folder that override htaccess setting. Btw did you cleared all caches inlcuding cache on your computer u acceessing your server from?

SF,

also check and make sure that for some reason permalinks have not been turned off, this will also cause a 404.

I tried with both the permalink URL and the standard URL. No difference. I don't think it is a permalink issue.

It's strange, but it acts like the modules folder got renamed or a .htaccess file got placed in the modules folder preventing access to it.

Weirdest thing i have every seen.

I've been thinking about this all night. The ONLY thing I can think where I might have screwed something up is when I was trying to solve an issue with the store. I was messing around in the sys_menu_top table in the database. BTW, my store still shows up both in the installed and not installed sections of my admin page. The weird thing is I got the store working thanks to a suggestion by DosDawg and everything was fine. This came on all by itself a short time later.

Somebody up there just hates me..... Cry

Yes I recall that post.  I just checked and they are there in sys_menu_top.

Your issue could have something to do with the store issue (changes you made) but I think it is something else effecting.

I have just subscribed your site and it works fine for me..

The unique thing I have seen is this:

{evalResult}

This is in your join page, this should be a language string that is missing, but all the links work fine.

HL, it was the wrong format, it should have been mp4 instead of swf, then you would know that each one of those elements he clicked on were resolving to memberID 404

you cant see it because its all the way to the left.

You guys don't notice it adding whatever I click on in the extra items dropdown to the main menu list? I circled the change with my mouse each time i did it.

Well color me pink! I thought that was some sort of menu error. It does that on all my sites!

Why does it add the extra menu item to the main menu when you click it? That seems kind of silly. If I wanted it in the main menu, I would just put it there!

How else would the sub menu items get displayed?

Quote · 25 Feb 2011

Ok. Why would I need it to display in the main menu? I can already get to it from the extra menu items drop down? In other words,

I drop down the list, I select "Articles" and the "Articles page opens. Why would I need it to add an "Articles" button to the main menu list? That just fudges up the list width and display?

(I hope I'm making myself clear)

As it turns out, it also looks like I have a server issue. I just tried uploading that video to one of my other sites that I am sure was working perfectly and I am getting an upload error. A test across all my sites shows me the error is system wide.

LOL. I'm a big car nut, especially Plymouth/Chrysler. Did you know that a 68 Charger just took the highest score ever given to a concours restoration and the Muscle car and Corvette show in Chicago? It scored 1000 points, a perfect score. First time ever! 4 different judges scored it a perfect restoration. This car even had the original overspray and paint drips under the body!

done a fresh install of 7.0.5, hit your database with it, no issues. renamed the default modules directory, cp'd your modules directory over, and the memberID 404 reappeared.

if you turn off permalinks so that you are eliminating an issue with htaccess you no longer get memberID 404's profile, however you do get memberID 403's profile

I wonder what would happen if I deleted the 404 member? Also, I tried to use deanos tools to give you admin access and it won't load from the admin page....

ok we are fixing to do some omit by process of elimination

Ok. This problem can be marked as RESOLVED! Myself and a couple of my friends have been trying to solve this puzzle for pretty near a week now with no luck.

I decided to call in my resident coding expert. I had run out of ideas and had checked everything I could think of as did everyone else that was helping me.

Anyakates to the rescue! I am still waiting on the report but Anya was tasked with it yesterday and today it's fixed. As soon as I find out what the issue was, I will post it here. I am still betting it's some stupid thing I did somewhere in my incessant need to make everything 'better'.

Cool

All the looking we all did, we didn't start logically in the search for clues. There was a missing file. Anyakates dialed right in on it by taking a logical approach to the problem. It didn't take Anya long to find the missing index, php file in the mod directory.

A simple comparison check of the mod directory with a fresh 7.05 zip would have spotted it immediately I think. I know what to do next time.

The obvious question is what the hell happened to the file? Dosdawg is going to look through the server logs and see if we can identify when and what happened to it.

Good work Anyakates. Thanks for your help.Sealed
