Aland Islands, are they spammers?

Hi to all,

Can anyone tell me if people who list their home as from Aland Islands, but use American cities such as , say New York, Chicago, Cincinnati and much more, but their emails do not pan out. I've been getting many Aland Islanders signing up on my site lately. Their names are mixed up, meaning I see first names as being their last name and visa - virsa. They do not upload profile pictures and so on.

Has anyone been seeing the same on their website? if so, what have you done to take care of this problem?

I myself believe that they are spammers.

I do not know how to include their IP adddess to block it. Is there a way to just block by country?

Thanks

I have these too... and yes, I believe they are very persistant spammers. I delete them and they come back... I delete them and they come back... I delete them......

They leave links in their profiles too.

problem is... do you want to block an entire country because of a few idiots?

I have mentioned in another post the possibility of a service that allows you to scan all e-mail addresses on signup against a database of known dolpin spammers e-mail addresses? Hopefully somone will catch onto this and make a bucket load of cash in the process.

If I knew how to block countries, yes, I would block the Aland Islands. They are becoming a big pain!

I have delt with spammers for a decade now, but in an irc server environment .

In your admin cpanel you can black list an IP Address either one specific address or a range. Before removing the spammer, record his/her email address and ip address, it may help and it may not especially since most spamers use proxies. In any case, everytime you blacklist and ip address you are most likely banning a proxy, but that is one less proxy they can come into your website and spam regardless of username or email address they use.

If you google you will find there is a library of know proxies, that may also help.

I hope the aforementioned posting may be of some assistance.
