Ads expiration?

Is there anyway of viewing or displaying an Ad's expiration date?

Besides no one can see how long an Ad has left to run, I have another question.

I set an Ad to run for 5 days, the 5 days are now up,

I received no notification that the Ad has expired and the Ad is still showing.

Is this how Ads are supposed to work?
If so what is the purpose of choosing a period of time for the Ad to run in the first place?

Am I missing something?
