I'm not sure why but I cannot seem to get the admin screen to load for the forum. When I click the link in the administration page, it takes me directly to the forum. There is no apparatus to build the categories from this page. I have tried removing and reinstalling the forum but still can't get it to work.

I am also experiencing the same behaviour and got no idea how to add forum categories.... |
When you click on Orca Forums from the admin panel, yes the Forum loads. Look next to where it says Forums Index and click the link that says manage forum. From there you can click new group. then click new topics. continue until you are done.

They changed it a little. This is what you need to do:
Use admin to go into the forum. From there click on the Manage Forum link on the right box.
On the new page click on the New Group on the right side of the screen. A Popup will appear and you put the group name in the forum list. From there you click the folder with blue upside down triangle button. That will allow you to make subtopics of the one you just made. Now users can put post on those subtopics.

Then I will get you overnight. |
Use admin to go into the forum. From there click on the Manage Forum link on the right box.
That's the issue, when I click that nothing happens...
I also created a thread for that yesterday I think but nobody replied as you can see here -

I tried both firefox and chrome.
|
Ah you must compile the forum first. You should see a [[compile language]] link on the far right of the forum when you launch it as admin. Once that happens you can then manage it and create subfolders. |
Thanks but when I click 'compile language' nothing happens there as well. I think the javascript pop-up is not being launched or something.
I tried using IE8 and it shows lot's of errors when that page loads up as shown in screenshot below:
Any other ideas???

Get off IE8 to do this. I've noticed that dolphin 7 and IE8 are having huge technical and compatible issues. Mozilla and safari work fine. Use that to test and work on the site until the issues with IE8 can be resolved. |
Thanks maurice but like I said I have already tried firefox and chrome before and clicking any of these clicks does nothing at all -
I am using firefox 3.5.5, which version of firefox do you see it working with?
|
That is weird it isn't working. You should get a message indicating the script complied correctly. You can try to compile the language in the Admin>Tools>Modules section. Click on the orca forum box and then click compile language.
I use firefox 3.5.5 right now.
Also try clearing out your cache and js/css cache and see if that works.

Thanks again, try that too but did not worked ...
Went to tools-modules and recompiled orca forum
deleted all files under cache and cache_public folder
But still when I click those 3 links, nothing shows up...

On the same subject but a different note, how do you create private forms that only certain members can see and post to (and not the public)? I have created a forum and then created a sub folder and selected private (as admin). When I login as my nomal user, I can SEE the private forum, the posts, reply to posts and create new posts.
I also tried to create a Private Group and then use that group to control access to the group (forum?) topics. I can create the group but I can not POST TOPICS or VIEW TOPICS. I get a 404 error when I click the links. Any help on either of these would be appreciated. Thanks!
I am running Dolphin 6.1.6, my own RMS server and using ORCA which came with dolphin.

I'm thinking Reason8 that the Orca in 6x is different than the Orca in 7x (which is what we're talking about here) Don't get confused between the two. Thanks guys, I saw the group thing but couldn't make heads or tails of it. I have to say that I have had no issues yet in regards to running ie8 on XP Pro. I'll chime in if I do... http://towtalk.net ... Hosted by Zarconia.net! |

Ok, we're good. All works well now once I understood how to do it. I didn't seem to have any issues creating or deleting groups or forums in ie8. I will try it in firefox and chrome as well. http://towtalk.net ... Hosted by Zarconia.net! |
Thanks Zarcon,
Tried that too ... did not worked. I am not understanding why it's just not working for me and it's working for everyone else and I am on Arvixe and I am sure lot of other people are also using that host. And moreover it's just bare-bone install of D7RC, I did not installed any custom stuff/script/template so far....I even tried deleting the forum files and copying it again as well as uninstalling/re-installing the mod but did not work. I can successfully compile the orca forum through tools->modules but nothing happens when i click those 3 links -
One thing, I noticed is when i hover over those links, it shows - javascript:void(0);. The page source shows this code:
<div class="disignBoxFirst"><div class="boxFirstHeader">[L[Forums Index]]<div class="dbTopMenu"><div class="notActive"><a class="top_members_menu" onclick="orca_admin.editCategories();" href="javascript:void(0);">[L[Manage Forum]]</a></div><div class="notActive"><a class="top_members_menu" onclick="orca_admin.reportedPosts();" href="javascript:void(0);">[L[Reported Posts]]</a></div><div class="notActive"><a class="top_members_menu" onclick="return orca_admin.compileLangs('en')" href="javascript:void(0);">[L[Compile Lang:]]en</a></div></div></div>
Do you also see the same???
Thanks Again

Mickscool, yes I see it like that too. Try to unistall the Orca Forum module, then reinstall it back. FROM THE ADMIN PANEL, click Modules, then Orca Forum. Once there, click the Complie[EN] first.

Oh, I see. Sorry. So what is the verdict on the new dolphin and orca? I was thinking about installing the RC but I am having such problems with orca and Ray's IM app (which does not work in 6.16 so I am told) that I dont want to move to another buggy platform.
What is everyone experiencing here with the new one? Is there an upgrade script from 6.16 to 7
Thanks!

Woooohooo....worked !!!
I deleted the whole site and re-installed it again and first time clicking 'compile lang' link did not worked. Then I refreshed it as you said and clicked it again and it worked and i see the 'New Group' link now... cool !!!!
Thanks a lot Zarcon and Maurice !!!! You guys are doing an awesome job helping the community, hope your status gets elevated to moderators soon :)

Don't know what to say but after I upgraded my site from RC1-> RC2, I have started to experience the exact same issue again...
I tried everything, re-installing the forum, refreshing page etc but this time it's not working..why have the made this thing so complex?????
I think it has to do something with the CSS because even when I click the 'Login' button on top of the forums menu nothing happens. But the same 'Login' button works fine on all parts of the site. So I have a weird feeling that some script in the forum is blocking pop-ups on that page.
Please help guys....

Am haing almost same problem, I cant make new topic, everything else works, this was after upgrading to 7.0.7
It's nice to be important....but it's more important to be nice!!!! |
Has this issue been solved yet? As it stands right now Dolphin 7 is not usable because of the broken forum issue. If anyone out there has a way of fixing this i would be much appreciative. |
