I'm know this has been mentioned before, So I will just reiterate the point. I think if you are logged in as the admin, you should have COMPLETE control over everything in your website. What Im suggesting is that the Admin should be able to view ALL content on the website regardless if a member has marked private or not.
I understand that you can still view within the admin panel, but it would be much easier to remain at the main site instead of having to revert to the admin panel in order to view a member's profile, or view uploaded content.
Would be nice to have this feature enabled for D7 by final release :)
Just a suggestion.

Right. In my opinion this is MUST for such a software. |
I do agree it is important for final that the admin can quickly and easily browser everyone's stuff. You need to be able to police your site for inappropriate things. |
I think its pretty funny that the admin can't even kick or ban in the chatroom. You have to open a separate window while logged into the chatroom, and access the flash apps>a/v chat> admin and make yourself a moderator. haha

I would agree that the site admin should have inline moderation tools, but I strongly disagree with giving the site admin an easy way to intrude on people's privacy. If a member has a photo album marked as something other than public, they have a right to expect that excluded members cannot view that album, and that includes admin. Same with PMs.
The site admin shouldn't go poking around in peoples private stuff just because they can. Material available for public view is a different story. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
I disagree. As the service provider you should be able to see anything that is put on the website quite easily. If you have someone placing copywritten/illegal material on your site you need to be able to quickly ascertain where it is located. The privacy argument only applies so far as the site admin is willing ot grant the privacy.
There is nothing wrong with placing in the terms of service that the admin has the right to view any material on the website. The admin absolutely should view from time to time the things on their website. Willfully making yourself ignorant of the things on your website can lead to serious consequences.

OK, I can see your point HoustonLively. Would you mind clarifying what you mean by "inline moderation tools"? I would be curious to hear your thoughts on that.
As far as the easy access, it was just to keep from having to access the admin panel to moderate the site. Technically if someone reported material that was considered inappropriate, all you would have to do is access the admin panel and view the photo, video, or whatever and decide if it needs to be deleted or not. I was just suggesting to reduce a step or two in order to accomplish the same thing :)
Thanks,
Chris

I dont know if anybody knows this, but as an admin you are legally responsible for all content on your site. While its a nice idea to allow people privacy even from us admins, its really not a good idea to have blind spots on your site that even you cant see. If a member uploads illegal content on your site, it is you the admin that will pay the ultimate price, and saying well its private and i cant get in to see it ,is no defense in law. Members i think expect admins to have complete control over their site, and software that makes it so admins cant see everything that is going on, is asking for trouble. |
Keep in mind that I am NOT saying that it is impossible to view private content. You can view all photos, videos, music, etc. from the admin panel. Just click the Modules>Photos (for example) if you wanted to see all the photos that have been uploaded to your site.
I was merely suggesting that it would be "easier" to moderate from within the site instead of having to go into the admin panel.
Just wanted to make sure that everyone understood my request.
