Adding a simple search option

I need a simple search option on the first page, so people can search by zip code and street only. Is this possible?

It won't let me add new items to the Quick Search! There is currently nothing in the Active Items, and when I try and add a new field it simply doesn't work. Any suggestions would be amazing.

function getBlockCode_QuickSearch()

in /templates/base/BxBaseIndex.php

OR install a mod
