Adding a new member

Why is there no option for the admin to add a new member? Could be handy!

Kinda defeats the purpose of having people Join your site doesn't it?

You can just register them yourself from the index page, but they are going to get the alert message.  You probably need to consider if they have properly "opted in" to your site.

It's a very useful tool. I use it all the time on my current site. It is true that you can do it from the front page but that kind of defeats the idea of the admin is all powerful? As a function of the admins job, you may want to add people here and there as a request, maybe their connect is crappy or the system they are on won't allow them ti fill in forms, there is a whole host of reasons why an admin may want or need to do this.

Mostly, it's just easier from the admin screen where you don't have to wait for confirmation emails and so forth. Set them up, approve them and get them online in one fell swoop.

The system is in place, register from the front page or any page if you are not logged in.  It might not be the solution you prefer but the option is available.  What's the difference between registering a user via the admin panel or join.php.  Both get the user on your site.

If the person is on a crappy connection that won't allow them to use the forms, then chances are they will not be able to use ANY part of the site.

And then you have to relay all the information you have setup for them:

Their username, password, email address, their descriptions, etc...

Just my opinion, but if someone cannot join my site using the join form, then they are really gonna have a time trying to navigate and "use" my site (as mentioned previously).

What i had in mind is may be, just may be the system won't let them go ahead with the registration. They can inform you of this and then you will just register them(minimum registration - email and password) and then they can fill the rest of their profile as they like. I'm sure most of us must have encountered this.

Adding a user manually is a pretty useful tool. I use it all the time with other scripts and CMS on my other sites.

As a workaround, you could register them with you own email address, then edit the member record by hand - I think you could then set up the "send message to member" function to send them the password you had selected.

My company has a solution for this:

We have a PHP code that you invoke from your browser. It will prompt you for mandatory fields and then insert the new record into the database.

We used this to input new members that we want to waive the initial sign-up fee for.

The Admin will then use the Admin panel to create a password for the user and other fields if he has the correct values.

Then the user can log on to add the remaining fields.

You will have to add your unique database name, user name and password to the code OR we can help you modify it.

Cost of code is $125
